I am getting near to putting my forge together, still have a couple of things to buy, but I also have one more hole to make in the body and I just want to make sure its in the right place before drilling. From what I found in my searches the thermocouple should be placed as close to the work area in the forge as possible without being in the flame from the burner. Going from that am thinking that just fore or aft on the same side that the burner enters the forge and just above the floor. Here are a couple of quick drawings to try and illustrate where I mean
I have done a couple of 3D graphic test runs and it seams to meet the criteria that all my searching stated, but I just want to get confirmation from people that know and have things up and running already.
Thanks
George
