These guys are real good!

I’d have to agree with that. You’d think Fisk went down there and waived a magic wand or something. Though to hear him tell it, these guys are a bunch of very talented, hard-working bladesmiths turning out beautiful knives. A few of them attended Blade earlier this year (Sfreddo, Dorneles and Vilar, I think, somebody correct me if I’ve left somebody out) and all did very well, selling everything they brought. Not hard to figure when you look at the quality of their work and consider the reasonable pricing.

I particularly like their integral gaucho-type knives, this one by Ricardo Vilar:

And their elegant take on the bowie, this one by Rodrigo Sfreddo (pic from knifeart.com):

And another by Lucioano Dorneles (pic from brazilianbladesmiths.com.br):

The bottom one is very nice, but my favorite has to be the Sfreddo ivory, damascus one in the middle.

I have seen some of the knives from this group of fabulous makers in the past, but just recently was directed to their website. As you can tell, I was floored by the quality I saw there. This is definitely a group to keep an eye on.

Yes, they are. They were very fairly priced at Blade, compared to the competition.

I have heard about the Brazilian knifemakers and have read a little about their work. Some of them are really good.

A few are natural-born knifemakers! :)

Do these guys make it out West (USA)?

I would really like to see some of their work in person. Also, where do they stand in regards to ABS? Are they Journeysmiths? Mastersmiths in waiting?

Has anyone purchased their knives? How did the transaction go? Any problems sending money? Problems with customs? etc....

What's their pricing like on pattern welded Damascus knives? Specifically, I'm thinking of something along the lines of Rodrigo Sfreddo's knife pictured above.

THANKS!

Hi Sid,

To answer some of your questions...

1) The three mentioned above attended Blade this year. I know they are planning to attend a US show again next year -possibly Little Rock - don't know the details.

2)Not sure where they stand re the ABS. Fisk went to Brazil in 2001 and gave a series of instructional seminars. More of the same took place chez Fisk post-Blade with a number of other top bladesmiths in attendance.

3) The Vilar integral dirk pictured near the top of this thread is mine. I purchased it through Fisk. I have another Vilar on the way from Brazil through Jeff at www.brazilianbladesmiths.com.br Check out that site for examples of their work and e-mail Jeff with any questions you have. You will find their pricing extremely reasonable.

Cheers,

Roger

At Blade, they sold out extremely quickly. I got a damascus integral camp knife (I think from Dorneles) very similar to the Vilar one posted above, for $650... :D :D :D

These are from Brazilian Mauricio Dobruski
