These LEOs scare the hell out of me...

Some real idiots on there, if they are in fact honest to god law enforcement then it just goes to prove there are bad cops out there. If not (I hope) it just goes to show how ridiculous people are on the internet.

I dunno, I've seen a lot worse. Most of the guys in that thread seem on a relatively even keel. I think if you took the pulse of a random cross-section of the male American population, you would get about the same mix of attitudes towards knives. Some cops have negative attitudes towards people in general, but I think that has a lot to do with them having to deal with scumbags all of the time. They don't get much interaction with "regular folks" all day- they mostly deal with folks who have shady motives and things to hide. It's natural for them to be suspicious. In the few times I've been pulled over by a cop, they have been universally polite and professional. They do a difficult, dangerous and often thankless job. I have a lot of respect for LEOs. Sure there are some bad cops out there, but there are jerks in every profession.

if you would like to discuss any legal issues, this is the place to do it.

however, a post and run is not a cool thing to do. offer something else besides a link and a smart remark. anything less simply appears as an attempt at stirring the pot.

I'm not stirring any pot.

That thread, among many others on that forum are very alarming. I have nothing but respect and gratitude toward our nations LEOs too...

But do you guys get this kind of reaction to knives with your states LEOs?

wow. i only made it to the bottom of page 2. yep, there were alot of douchenozzles on there. part of me wants to wonder if they are really LEO, but most of me realizes i don't have to wonder :-( they come off with the elitist attitude all too common in our field :-(

i did notice one LEO chastising the others for their unprofessional behavior, which was refreshing.

i try not to engage in arguments with tyranic police who (often) lack the intelligence to understand a different perspective or the humility to consider theirs may be a tad "off". that's why i am not very active on (predominately) LEO forums.

please, realize there are cops like me out there who are just the opposite - we would think you're a little funny for NOT having a decent folder on you at the VERY LEAST.

i dont expect anyone to go in to a foreign place, with foreign people, and totally understand their point of view.

consider the person who "stumbles" on this site looking for information regarding a family heirloom. they look around and find practac, w&s, w&c, etc. imagine what they must think.

they ask what to them is an innocent question about why we carry/use/love knives, and get answers in the same vein as those in that link. what would the people on their computer forum, football forum, or book club forum think of us?

responses on a forum are not necessarily a reflection of the person behind the keyboard. nor, in this case, should they be considered to be a common theme among law enforcement officers, anywhere.

you read that and get upset because a bunch of cops are being jerks.

its a forum. and its the internet.

and like it or not, your first post was indeed a "post and run", regardless of your intent, which is still unclear. post whatever links you like, but offer something to discuss in the appropriate place. clicking on links with little to no indication of what is behind them is a bad idea. i only went to the link because of zignal zero's post, otherwise im not risking a virus by clicking on a random link posted by a user i don't know.

Not much for me to say that MORIMOTOM hasn't made clear already. I closed the thread because it is a link-and-run. You put up a link with an "oh, wow" for a comment. What you should have done was tell us what the link was about, tell us what you thought of it, and then provided the link afterwards.

Repost it if you like, in Knife Laws or Practical Tactical, but tell why it belongs there. As far as I can tell, it does not belong here.
