I have always wanted a small saltwater aquarium with a nice, colorful octopus. they are very smart and develop a relationship with you not unlike mammalian pets.
Anyhoo, here are some videos posted by owners of octopii and cuttlefish.

I have a saltwater aquarium. and mostly keep tangs and angels, although a few invertebrates would be nice. They are incredible escape artists though, and a special top would be needed. Stay awy from the little guy shown below--very deadly... The blue ringed octopus was featured in one of the James Bond movies (Dr. No?), and it's danger was not exaggerated, although the time for the venom's onset was..

did you know that cuttlefish flash a different color pattern when they catch a fish?
Its too cool, its like their little victory dance or something...

I didn't know about the cuttlefish's chromatic victory dance, but I did know that they're delicious. Make a great jerky, good drinking food. I wonder how much information they're throwing out there when they do that? Are differentr colors, patterns, speeds all memes, or is it just some instinct that makes it safer for them to eat somehow?

Couple nights ago I dressed out 3 2" long squid for dinner. Also delicious, we usually do them in a thick red pepper sauce with assorted veggies, but a pain to skin the tentacles.

I've also had the misfortune to get into a bag of 'crunchy cuttlefish flavored peanut balls'. Asian snack food can be pretty hit or miss.

I feel bad because octopi are so cool and yet so tasty. I've seen cuttles up close feeding at a zoo, they seem to hypnotize their prey by fluctuating their colors before they strike. Very interesting animals! And they get pretty big in the wild, sperm whales eat them.

I thought i saw on one of those "Planet Earth: 50 million years in the future" kind of shows that the cephilopods were probably going to be the next dominant species after we've wiped ourselves out. They are suppose to have the brain power along with a fully developed eye that will give them the edge they need to evolve and thrive in the future. Kind of creepy when you think about all the stuff Lovecraft wrote about. Cool animals:)

I for one would love to be able to translate the color flashes. They might have some interesting things to tell us.

- Cuttlefish flashes while catching a fish. Translation: "Owned. I am teh uber."
- Cuttlefish flashes in aquarium. Translation: "I am being held against my will. My captors are attempting to make propaganda films with me. If you see this message, please send help."
- Octopus flashes at owner: "Stick your hand in here again, tough guy. I dare you."
