But they can't take it:

Seriously.

While I TOTALLY sympathize with the Middle East's dissatisfaction with the US messing in the internal affairs of countries in the region, and our supporting of repressive regimes, and I would support the the right of them to democratically pass any law in their own countries, even ones I might disagree with, this whole going violent over words (ie Van Gogh, Salmon Rushdie, political cartoons) just goes to show why the whole region is in the total mess it's in, and also shows that if they aren't willing to peacefully protest things they don't like in Western Countries then they should move back to the theocracies that they came from.

Rant over.

I can think of a number of cartoons I've seen involving jesus which might just provoke similar reactions in the bible belt.

i seem to remember some people getting a tad upset with mel gibson & his film.....no sense of humor, these fundamentalists. turn 'em over to the inquisition for impaling i say!

I've seen a few but the outrage hasn't been quite as widespread or vehement as this apparently is.

Every religion has people who are just a hair away from burning people at the stake. This is why I'm not a religious man I won't support any god who alows killing of inocents in his/her/their name.

Well I don't think God is looking for endorsements anyway. ;)

I do agree that religion is a drug best taken in moderation.

Hollow, you have a point, but we are guilty of the same thing. Maybe you could say to a lesser degree, maybe not.
