old subject... few months ago the Danish Justice minister tryed to pass a law to prohibate carry of any knives and/or sharp objects on the streets in Denmark.
At this time many of the Blade Forum took their pens to write to our parlement.
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=279915&highlight=denmark

This resulting that the law was droped! Today I saw the news on TV, the government have just voted a new law...
Are allowed to carry ONLY folder under 2.75" WITHOUT locking system of the blade!!! SAK only!!!
Now in Denmark if you carry a multitool you're a criminal!
They didn't told they was going to vote this law this time, they learned from the past so they did it without warning. That is the Danish democraty... To reinforce this law the government just gave the right to the police to stop and emprty the pockets of who they want without any given reason!:barf: Welcome to Russia back in 1950!
Here is the link with the adress of our Justice ministery, feel free to write!

It's getting worse, almost everywhere. In my city, I'm not allowed to carry any locking knife in public. Random body-searches are held by the police - old grannies aren't spared, either: They'll search EVERYONE. Even when driving your car you can be stopped and searched. I work in a large book/multimedia-store and even there, as they've defined shops as public places, the visual clip of a knife in my pocket puts me at risk of losing what's attached to that clip.

Most of these random searchings occur on Friday- and Saturday- evenings, but the mere idea of the possibility is dreadful. Meanwhile, when I talked to a local hardware-shopowner, he said: "All those cops that collect knives from anyone - whaddaya think they do with them...? Some of those cops, when they're off duty, are regular customers here for Spyderco's and BM's." Which, at full retail here in Holland, are up to three times as expensive as in the States.

The idiocy is that Dutch knife-laws - the federal laws so to say - are very lenient. For example, a Cuda Maxx would only JUST be illegal - by no more than half an inch or so. It's the local laws that get tougher and tougher. :grumpy:

I doubt America is too far behind. I'm sure our propoganda spewing government will have NO problem getting people to swallow just about anything as long as they use terrorism as a scare tactic. It's ridiculous. "Keep going about your daily life!" they say, to save our economy, "But we'll have control over every aspect".

:barf:

Dan You said it!

There's lots of crap getting passed in the name of terriorism.

I'll say it, even tho I'll catch the grief:

American's aren't brave enough to be free.

Sorry to hear about that Oliver and Peter. Just when we thought the police state failed now it shows up in our own back yard.

Like I said before; In The Netherlands, heroin is legal, but a Spyderco Delica (for instance) is not legal...Go figure..

Amen to that Dann! samme her! in Denmark pædofil associations or Nazi radios are legals! Nazi radios even get money from the state! but owning a one hand folder is a crime...

The first is technically not true - but wait a second there: If you're caught with up to 3 KG's of coke at Schiphol Airport, you won't be even arrested. There ARE plans to undo this recent idiocy, for Heaven's sake.

In real-life, only the big-time dealers and shipments are actively pursued. Small-time heroin-addicted hookers (yep, prostitution IS legal) can do whatever they want.

My CF Delica is indeed at risk. I'm already considering taking the clips off most of my EDC's and go for deep-pocket carry, at least during summer (more visible clips!).

Don't even start about fire-arms here... :D

Pretty tight; although only a week ago, we had our first schoolboy-shoots-teacher accident. He died (the teacher, I'm afraid). So much for strict gun-laws - the bad guys will always get what what they "need".

You may own a fire-arm when you've been a member of a shooting-club for more than a year - then you may keep it at home but ALWAYS locked in a safe. I'm not very much pro-fire-arms but there should be a middle-way, for example only for people who pass severe psychological tests and are complete non-offenders.

that's why real Americans stand up for their rights. This country was built on Freedom and only be speaking out will you retain that freedom. I submit to you that americans have provem themselves to be brave enough to be free and brave enough to set peoples from other countries free from the tyrants that torture and kill them. It's the rest of the world that has these issues and are trying to spread it to the US.

We have states where it is legal to carry firearms exposed without a license as well as knives. concealed carry requires permits. Now if you live in the Communist society of NY, MD and CA, then god help you.

For some reason my wife can't knit on airplanes - it makes the passengers nervous. Crocheting is right out. I think it's that little hook thingy on the end that has the TSA so worked up.

Of course you do have to watch out for people carrying almanacs too - scarry.

Cobalt, I'm not refering to our heritage, history, nor heros. No. I'm refering to the average american that will shreek if you were to open a 3 inch blade in a McDonalds.

Ever eat at Applebees? Try asking for a steak knife that will actually cut. I did - they won't.

Do not get me wrong, I understand were your comming from. Simply put, John Wayne would not be considered a role model by todays pansy family, who shudder and shreik at the site of a little knife and have to ask why you carry it.

they are the ones who will, if allowed destroy this country. they need to move to the other crappy countries where those dumb laws already exist. I always confront those idiots with logical discussions and ask them why they have no common sense, that usually ends the discussions. they usually give that deer in the headlights look anyway, signifying a lack of gray matter behind those blank eyes.

Cobalt Buddy - we are on the same page.

You'll like this quote from our old pal Ben Franklin:

"Those that would exchange their freedom for security will not recieve, nor do they deserve, either one."

Sorry, oliverplomion didn't mean to hyjack your thread. We see the same stuff coming here. In fact I watch the laws in your 'neck of the woods' to anticipate what's on the horizon for us. So, what happens to you concerns me.

America is just now experiencing random police checks - and the sheeple love it. That used to be illegal here. It's now accepted procedure in or near airports. People are getting used to the idea. Your random searches in book stores (especially those that sell almanacs) probably isn't far beyond.

I think the worst thing in this is that the police will probably go for young second generations immigrants of arabaic descent first, danish gang bangers second and the rest of us as a distant third. Thereby we can feel fairly "safe".
But.....when carrying a knife is not a right but a potential crime and it's up the discretion of the officer(s) if you'r searched, you just can't feel safe carrying a basic tool.
I haven't got words for how disgusted I am by this law, our power horny, blind and deaf politicians and our completely ignorant police!
This law will accomplish nothing in preventing stabbings!
It will however make criminals out of perfectly normal, law abiding citizens who would never ever even think of using their knives as weapons.

Cobalt et al,
The US is the only place I can think of where there's a bit of freedom left for people who choose to believe in the right to carry whatever they need for utility and self defence.
That race is over for us here in socialist occupied Europe!:barf: (With Germany as a possible exeption - it's still legal to carry pretty much any knife you want there apart from certain automatics!)
I want to get out of here so much, but alas several things are preventing that.....! :(

Is there no way the people n these countries can change these idiotic laws???

It is very scary to see Guns and knives being sawed in half in some countries. But I guess a defensless people are easier to control:eek:
