All of us here, who have had any dealings with Duncan Campbellclanman, will know of his kindness and generosity. He is not known as 'The Legend' for nothing! ;) :D I am one of those members lucky enough to have met Duncan in person, and he really is a great bloke in every way, and someone whose friendship I treasure greatly :)

I received a surprise package from Duncan today, which certainly put the icing on what has been a pretty good day :) Inside was a lovely card featuring a Tui bird, with a nice hand-written message from The Legend himself :) Of course, (inside an appropriate carrier-bag), there was also something else...in fact several somethings!

Some of my Lambsfoot-loving brethren and sistren may recognise this beautiful Needham Lambsfoot with the enigmatic 'US Navy' stamping. It has puzzled and interested many of us, and led to a good deal of discussion. Thanks to Duncan, I am now the proud owner of this special knife, and it is even more beautiful in hand than in the pictures - certainly many more times beautiful than THESE pictures, which were taken on my kitchen table this evening :o I hope to get some better ones soon, and am sure the knife will become a regular pocket companion :)

I am fascinated by anything unusual, so the ivory fruit knife, which Duncan also included, is of considerable interest to me. Even the spring is of ivory! I find the Wharncliffe frame and blade interesting in themselves too. Definitely a knife to ponder over, and to treasure :)

But what's this in the bottom of the bag? Surely not! One of Charlie's HJ-9s! :) Duncan has done a lot of work on it, so that I could appreciate the super-pointy punch. Ouch, it's sharp! Duncan collects Harness Jacks, and Charlie's SFOs in general, so it's a particularly kind and thoughtful gift.

Duncan even added a Victorian English Penny from 1901 :)

Thank you Duncan, for all your kindness, both to me, and to so many here on The Porch, you really are a Legend, and it's great to have you as a friend :)

Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas and all the best for 2017

The Legend lives on! None finer than both giver and givee. :D   Most excellent post.

Bob nailed it on the head! Fantastic all around. That ivory knife with the ivory spring is certainly something I've never seen before.

All those knives are great; I really am surprised by the ivory knife! Very thoughtful gifts, Duncan; and they couldn't have gone to a more worthy Forumite.:thumbup:

The Legend or Duncan as we usually call him, is a truly kind and generous man. I have not had the pleasure of shaking his hand in friendship, yet , but I look forward to that day. However, I have had close communication and collaboration with him on a very special thing that we did to help out a friend. He is someone that I am honored to call my friend. Jack, now hold on just a minute! All of these things I have spoken about Duncan also ring true about you! So congratulations my Legend Friend, on some very deserving gifts.

WOW! It's all fantastic, but that pure ivory knife is something else! I've never seen anything remotely like that. I can't believe the spring is ivory. You don't think of ivory as a tough material sometimes, but have you seen what elephants do with their tusks!?!?

I remember I was shocked a few months back to hear of a roman knife with a bronze blade (a very corrosion resistant material) and ivory handle that shows just how long-lasting ivory can be:

A fantastic gift you have there for sure!

Hey...i have been called many many names...but they are not to be printed here lol, Jack- its a pure pleasure my friend.:D

The HJ9 still needs about 10% finishing - it is funny - you think you have got the punch right- then after sitting it down again for the night- it sticks again!

Honestly Jack - although it may not seem like it now, but that punch will snap like a Turtle, -it just needs its new Dad to finish it off - which I think is neat because it has you "growing into the knife" so to speak - and it will be YOU who gets it good, then it will truly be yours:thumbup:

My HJ9 was actually worse that yours- and yes...your hj9 did draw blood from me as well - Man those HJ9's have bled me more than any other - my one especially after launching itself directly into the tip of my finger - and Oh boy I cab tell you it was in good - even the good old hand shaking didnt dislodge it - in fact made my scream go just that little higher as the weight of the knife tailed side to side during the shake :D - I can tell you my friend, my finger reminded me every second it was there for quite a few days!
BUT!!!! in saying that after a couple of nights of work- my punch just snaps!! Love it - so I hope you get to love it too without the pain Jack.

You deserve a heck of a lot more - you do so much for so so many people.
Merry Christmas and thank you for lending me your legend Title - just for that minute, but you deserve it back Jack.

Have a lovely Christmas my friend

Duncan, you're a class act all the way, mate. Every one of those knives is a treasure. Good on ya.
Have a great Christmas!

Good show Duncan you sir are definitely one of the finest members on the porch. Likewise Jack there is a no more deserving recipient. Very good stuff.

Thanks for the kind words gents, you're a great bunch :)

Ouch! I remember you posting about that now Duncan, and I feel your pain my friend, that punch is like a needle! Thanks for all your work on it, and I'll try to get it the rest of the way :)

Your both are Legend indeed. Two very classy true Gentlemen!

I think Emerson said it best and it fits with you two...

To make others laugh and smile often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people; to earn the appreciation of your peers, to appreciate beauty and find it in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a thriving forum condition, a fine working knife, a flourishing garden of friends; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.

Thank you both

I couldn't say it any better.:thumbup: I will add that the porch is full of good a generous folks like no other place on the web that I have ever seen.

Jack, the term LEGEND aptly applies to you and Duncan. I am very very fortunate to call you both my friend. Both such cornerstones and contributors on the porch:thumbup:

I was fortunate to handle the HJ and that Wonderful Lambsfoot if memory serves. That Ivory knife is just fantastic:cool: Duncan, like yourself is so broad in his gift giving. Another trait you two share is your unique penmanship. I will be starting a thread similar to yours as I too rec'd a package from Duncan the same day as you. The cards are similar yet different.

Like a dialect or accent one trains an ear and adapts, becoming quick to pick up the subtle nuances. The same applies to both yours and Duncan's handwriting, Nanc and I are still deciphering Duncan's card:D

Way to go Duncan and Jack, a neat thing to read:thumbup:

Haha I love reading these stories. Just reading the title of Jack's post before opening the thread I already knew it was Duncan striking yet again with a lightning bolt of kindness. I opened it and was right lol.

Kudos to you Duncan and many congrats to another legend - Jack Black himself - despite his humble demeanor in these times.

Having met Duncan in person as well as knowing him here on BF , I agree completely with the sobriquet "Legend"!
A more generous and enthusiastic person would be hard to find!
You called it, Jack (a legend in your own right!!)
I'm proud and humbled to call you both "friend"!

I'm fairly amazed at the camaraderie and friendships forged on this forum. Being a fairly new member (but not new to internet hangouts) it's refreshing and heartwarming. Jack has quickly become a friend and kindred spirit. I hope to make many more in the future.

I've learned enough from the kind folks here already to have accumulated 4 of Charlie's SFO's. They are superb. Thank you Charlie.

Happy Holidays all.

Many thanks for your kind words my friends, I am humbled to be in such fine company :)
