They gave me a knife on the plane

Apparently you can't stab people with a steel dinner knife. You need a lethal weapon like a Leatherman Micra for that sort of thing.

I'm still yet to comprehend how 3 or 4 four guys overpowered over a few hundred people on those flights with box cutters... plastic knives are kinda lacking when it comes to chopping your meal up, good move IMO.

I believe that prior to 9/11, the accepted response to a hijacking was total compliance. The hijacker would threaten the pilot and crew, he would be taken to his vacation destination of choice, and then the plane would continue to its original destination. Sadly, we now know that those "rules" no longer apply.

(IMHO, no plane will ever be hijacked by box cutters again - the passengers would tear that hijacker into pieces the size of confetti.)

Yeah I can understand that, I think if they did know what was happening no terrorist SOB would have been able to do that...but the only concern i have is if they keep relaxing things just how relaxed will things get? one slip up could mean disaster again.

I can safely assume no one ever wants to wake up and see that on the news, or experience being there etc ever again.

I would rather be on a plane where I can safely assume evryone is armed and ready to 'roll'. Any one of y'all can sit by me. ;)

You have to remember almost all the people on hijacked airliners prior to 9/11 were eventually released unharmed. A few had been murdered. The most deadly hijacking I can think of prior to 9/11 occured in the 90's, and the people were killed because the highjackers had the pilot try to land on a runway that was to small for the airplane. The passenger on the plane that crashed in Virginia complied with the terrorist until they heard over cell phones that the other planes had crashed into the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon. Even then some people on the plane still didn't believe that what was happening was happening.

Well I'm positive unless they get guns on board no edged weapon will give them the effect they want again!...that and arnt there trained security on every flight? as in carrying a pistol and mp5's in storage on board (it was on our news here a while ago).

Merek: Amen.

Amen twice. We need to come back up to a level where the terrorist will have the most to fear.

(Reminds me of a visit to L.A. many years ago, a few days after a rash of freeway shootings. Before I left, everyone told me to stay off the freeways. When I arrived there, I drove among hundreds of the most polite drivers you have ever seen. Everyone thought the OTHER guy was reloading! )
