Wow, went to a gun show yesterday for the first time in months, and ran across new Beckers. Guess I've been snoozing about knives for a few months.
Got to handle both the Necker and a Companion. I came home and ordered a couple of B-11s. One is for me and the other for my little brother's birthday.
What a great looking little knife. I really like how the belly carries forward. That ought to be nice for several uses including skinning.

A companion will be coming my way before too long.

Great, hard working knives in high carbon steel for a reasonable price. Sweet!

I'd like to read more about how the 1095 Cro-Van steel compares to other 1095 steel and other high carbons.

Soon you will have a BK-2 Campanion, a BK7 or a BK9 to go along with your BK-11s.

Congrats on your newly stumbled upon addiction :)

Thanks. After surfing through some reviews and thinking about most of my uses, I'm thinking the BK9 may be the "next one."

1095 is one of my very favorite steels and IMO KaBar's particular CroVan version of it is possibly the best on the market.

I have a good number of 1095 knives. My brother has more as he was in the USMC and he collects KaBar. KaBar's 1095 has noticeable more 'bite' to it than any other 1095 I've ever used and the edge retention is very good.

So far all my Beckers are Camillus models. I find they have a better quality of edge and slightly better edge retention than KaBar 1095 CroVan, but from my understanding, KaBar's steel is a bit tougher than what Camillus was using. There's always a trade-off but I think they even up in that trade. I've butchered a deer using a KaBar and didn't notice much edge loss.

Two BK-11 s are in the hands of the postal service and coming to papa.

Found some more info. on the steel. Didn't mean to get hung up on that at all. What I read sounds very good to me. I've got a bunch of high carbon steel knives and love them. This particular steel sounds like it is essentially the same as another knife I own that has awesome characteristics. I've pounded the heck out of it splitting seasoned hardwoods plus it takes and holds a great edge.

Now to figure out if its the 7 or the 9 or the 2 next.

I don't know your uses, but my vote would be for the BK-2. It actually has more weight than the BK-7 (good for chopping), is a quarter inch thick (really strong and good for battoning), yet is small enough for useful camp work. I'd get that first, then build my Becker collection around that. My suggestion would be for the BK-2 (all around knife), the BK-11 Necker (for fine work), then the BK-9 (for a great big chopper).

Just my opinion, of course.

My vote's for the BK 2 also, it would make a great big brother for your BK II.
Someday hopefully soon I'll get around to finishing a review on the 2. Life just keep's getting in the way of my fun :grumpy:

Thanks for the input on selecting the next one. I've got several knives I like in the mid-size range, not that any are a direct comparison to the BK 2. I've got a Cold Steel SRK in the Carbon V., and a Rat Cutlery RC 4 (if my brother ever returns it). Both of those are nice mid size knives. My only "big knife" is a Ontario 12" Camp Machette. I've found it to be outstanding. So I was thinking the BK-9 might be something between that small machette and a hatchet in terms of how I'd use it -- firewood prep on canoe trips, light trail maintenance, ground blinds for bowhunting, etc.

I have been very happy with my order of buying Beckers

BK11->BK2->BK7

We'll see what beckers come out in the future.. but for now, I'm done with my collection. I have no use for a 9 because I'd rather chop with an axe/hatchet, and besides the chopping advantage, theres nothing the 9 can do that the 7 cant do.

Your a better man than me Jake. I keep telling myself that I dont "need" another blade, but I keep looking at other knives and want to buy more.

lol I've given up on "i dont need another". However... my bank account wants me to re think that phrase. :)

Jake you do NEED another, yes you do!a BK9 for total Becker Domination!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could the same be said for the BK2 and the BK7 or does the thinner stock and less apparent saber grind make enough difference to justify both, assuming no chopping?

The Becker BK-11s came in yesterday. I snuck in a little time with mine and have it paracord wraped and played with the edge a good bit. I even did a little food prep., and scraped tinder. The knife really impresses me and I'm pleased to have it. This is my first time to do a paracord wrap on a handle and it turned out very well. Thanks to those who have posted photos of that on some of the recent threads.

Like Jake, I may have to let the checking account recover a bit and then one of the big three (leaning toward the BK-2 again) is coming to its new home.

I can hear the BK-2 calling your name from here. Don't resist: you know you'll be happier when you have it in your hand.

Congratulation on the BK-11. It's a nifty little knife.

i'd like to complete the collection, but I feel like the 9 would just sit in my room somewhere and never get used. :( I'd rather have a BK go out to someone who will beat the snot out of it :)

iamtoast: The 2 and 7 will do fine chopping up to a certain limit. You will be able to discover their limits when you start chopping.

theres doing fine, then theres chopping with a BK9,big difference thanks to the new ka-bar version BK9,I gave my BK7 user to my brother.BK7 it's a great knife, but it's not a BK9 you can do finer type work with a BK9. (I feel like the 9 would just sit in my room somewhere and never get used.)No WAY!you will use the 9 ,IT'S a awsome awsome
knife.for me right now IT's BK9,BK2 or BK2,BK9 then BK11. you have a 3 day weekend to think about it.make the right choice make us all proud of you!
