i saw a 90$ 1/4" x 1 1/2" double latch latigo leather belt about 6 years ago that i wanted to buy but didnt, and have regreted since then. i wear a lot of stuff on my belt and like all of ot to be held up pretty steady (as little wobble as possible), wich is one of the reasons i like the thicker leather belts vs. nylon etc

fot the past 7 years ive been using dickies double latch black leather belts, and have been nothing but happy with them. but seeing a few thicker leather belts at a thrift store, i again wanted one, so i just made one myself out of stuff i had at home.

the belt itself is a peice of horse tac bought for around 6$, the buckle is from a dickies belt boughtr for about 10$, with the tube gaurd and second latch removed. its been died black (from brown) and re top coated using nuke glow (from earlsleather.com).

its 7/32" thick (right between 3/16 and 1/4) and weighs 8.6oz. i am quite happy with the outcome :D

Good stuff.

I just got a Sharkskin belt from Rafter S Gunleather and it is nice and thick. I'm loving it! :D

For double thickness leather, I' ve had many years of satisfied use with the models from www.miltsparks.com They have been making serious leather for decades now. Their double thick belts are sewn on the border and burnished with a smooth and attractive finish. Additionally they are cut at a distinct curve, which in my experience helps to eliminate that ugly and accelerated weared kink right in the middle of the back area. Additonally if you wear a lot of gear on your belt on a daily basis, that precurved will aid in some comfort.

I have a belt that "Leatherman" (Dwayne) made for me awhile back that is so thick that it'll almost stand up on its' own.:D.

got any pics?

I've had dwayne build me some awesome sheaths for my balis. I need a new belt.

Do you have his e-mail I seem to have lost it. thanks!

i've seen a few of those links before, the milt sparks have always impressed me. one of the reasons i havent gone with those (besides lack of money) i guess would be style. the one i saw originally looked pretty much identical to the one i made, simple square buckle, flat black stichless leather, and simple slightly rounded chevron. very few features, the main 2 things being the leather and the square buckle...

some awesome belts displayed here though...

Seth, nice belt! I'm always on the lookout for a quality leather belt. Makes me want to try and make my own also. Horse tac eh?

I bought one of my belts at Workworld about 5 years back , it is the Police Officers type with that weave style worked into it , it is thick and very sturdy , simple chromed buckle and it was about 15$ , I still wear it to this day. I bought another one last year same style , slightly wider , same price.
Very durable nice belts for the price.
