It seems is if I can buy exotic wood all day that is 1/2 in. or more thick all the time. Does anyone sell 1/8" through 1/4 " slabs of wood? I don't know how to cut wood that thin. '

The way to cut wood that thin is by resawing it on a bandsaw.

But, if you are just looking for knife scales, there are a few guys on eBay that sell wood roughly dimensioned for scales.

Look on ebay using " thin lumber " as a search.

Try Rockler Woodworking. Our local store has a good stock on hand that is great to pick through, but you can order on-line also.

Well, if you want the wood for knife scales, try a knifemaker's supply house.

Texas Knifemaker's springs to mind.

If you want it for something that requires a bigger length by width of thin lumber, you might try a cabinet maker's supply house. Try exotic-wood.com for that one. They offer 1/4" thick wood.

A lot of hardware stores have racks of precut hardwood for DIYers. I've seen them in all the Home Cheapos around here plus a lot of the mom-n-pops. Oak, poplar, and maple IIRC. As thin as 1/8 or 3/16 and up to 3 or 4 inches wide. They'll also sell brass rod (for pin stock) in various diameters and lengths.

I've generally just gotten offcuts (waste) from woodshops though.

I found a lot of 30 offcuts of all different types on ebay. There wasn't any movement on them and in the last minute my bid got sniped. A buddy had two Dremel scroll saws that you can still buy blades for. He gave me one. I'm going to Harbor Freight tomorrow and get a combination 1" belt and disc sander. I'll see what I can do with them. Thanks.
