Thickest liner? (liner lock)

Excluding frame locks, what production knives have the thickest, beefiest liners? I'm sure there's a wide variation in liner thickness, especially as you progress from cheapies to more expensive models.

Which production liner locks have the thickest liners, and which ones have the wimpiest?

I'll start the discussion by nominating the Blade Tech Rijbak as having one of the thickest liners, and the CRKT mini Point Guard as having one of the thinnest.

BTW this question was inspired by the thread where the guy filed an extra 10 years worth of wear into his knife so the liner would move past center:eek:

the Fallkniven PXL has a great lock. i am not sure what 'beefy' means, but this one may be it. :)

My Kershaw Junkyard Dog 2 CB has the beefiest liner lock of my knives and also the Cold Steel Ti Lite is a nice nice and thick lock but it has that piece of the liner folded over so it's a modified liner lock of sorts, but the thickest straight up liner lock is the JYD2CB.

The Ontario Hossum Retribution I and II have the thickest locking liners I've ever seen. They are near custom quality, are somewhat affordable (< $175.00) and open with a most satisfying "thwack".

I know you're going to find this odd, but the thickest liner I've seen is still on the Cold Steel Ti-Lite. That thing is HUGE

5.11 First Responder is a pretty stout one.

The thickest I've had would be the Ontario Retribution I with a liner that is .125", that is as thick as a lot of knives blades! Others are my Strider AR at .105", the ZT0200 at nearly .080", as is the JYDII.

I third that, the liner is thicker than most blades. It's more a frame lock with massive well shaped handle slabs.

I'm going to go with the JYDII as well. The liner on the regular production model and the CB model is the same and they are thick as hell.

These extra thick liner locks generally have a section substantially thinned out to make operation easier. When this is the case, the thickness becomes irrelevant to the strength of the lock.

I agree.

Also, the type and hardness of the steel will make more difference than the thickness.

Yes, like the spyderco military. It looks thin but is very strong because of the type of steel and length of spring and fit.It is one of the strongest liner locks out there and are underrated by lots of people because of it's appearence.

I think frame locks aren't much stronger then liner locks because of the thinned out section as well. The only advantage that frame locks have is their is a thicker piece of metal under the blade tang so if the lock fails and slips to the other side it won't jamb in the pivot area. And the obious fact that your fist is holding the frame lock in place.

Good work sal.......But having a military with Ti compression lock will be the cats ass.

Benchmade Skirmish... titanium as thick as the side of the handle.. b/c that's the liner lock... ala CRKs

Actually it's a frame lock, not a liner.

Strider AR had the thickest liner from the folders that I have seen in person.

Can some more thickness pics be posted please?

About the thickest liner lock I have ever owned was the Benchmade 425 Gravitator. It was like a frame lock with G10 scales.

I however agree with Sal. The best liner lock I have ever owned (and will probably ever own) are any of my Spyderco Militaries. And I usually dislike liner locks quite a bit.
