Hi all,

My first post ever on BF (though I'm been a silent reader for about 2 years).:)

I was considering buying the Buck 309 as my first (non-SAK) traditional folder.
Then I stumbled upon some posts mentioning the 310. Instantly liked that design, but I went on Bass Pro website and the information on the knife is limited.

Can anyone tell me the difference in knife thickness at the handle? is it true that the current 310 design features 3 springs?

Would appreciate any info.

Welcome to the forum, Bamba. Are you sure there is a current 310 design?

Humm... well, maybe not in the sense that you mean, Bert.
I'm not sure. When I say "current production" => the current 310 Whittler knives on Bass Pro stores inventory.

Introduced 1994, in recent years the 310 Whittler has been a Bass Pro exclusive so it will not be found in the current Buck general catalog. It has had a varied sponsorship, I believe it was originally a Smoky Mountain offering, then found the Buck general catalog awhile before moving to Bass Pro. Bass Pro provides it in a wood slide top box. Same as the 309 but with the addition of a Coping blade. Interestingly, Buck has been lazy about stamping the main Clip blade with 310 so just as many 310's are found with a 309 marked blade as with one marked 310. It is thicker than the 309 by the thickness of 1 blade and I'm not getting off the sofa to go measure. You asked about springs, all Buck 300 series pocket knives have one spring per blade since about 1990 so yes, it will have 3 springs... no crinking. Find an early one, about 94-97, it will have nice flat grind blades.

Oh... and welcome to the Buck forum.

I notice that the main blade of the 310 on the Bass Pro site has 309 on it.

Thanks for the clarifications DeSotoSky
Given that the blades are ~1.2mm thick, I guess we're talking about 1.5-2mm added girth. Slightly more if there're liners.

Thank you guys for the friendly welcome.
