I usually carry a Cold Steel Ti-Lite in the front of my pants, but this summer it's been brutally hot and I can't stand wearing even shorts. I bought a number of light summer dresses, but now I'm facing the problem of how to carry my knife.

In my bag is not an option, because that's where I keep an array of other legal self-defense weapons, and the knife has to be on my person in order to be my last resort. Underarm, shoulder, and waist are also out because of the simple design of the dresses.

I'm looking for advice on either where to go to buy a thigh holster for a folding knife, or tips on how to make my own. Thank you so much!

i realize that you said no underarm carry, and i hate to even suggest this becuase it is so annoying when it looks like someone doesn't even read a post before responding, but have you considered the mercharness?

very simplistic, very slimline, and you could probably get away with it even under a light dress.

otherwise, what about clipping it to your underwear somehow?

i would hate to have anything strapped around my leg, especially in the heat.
EDITED to add;
What about neck-knife style on a long cord hanging down between your breasts? if you hooked it on a long bead chain it would look very natural and inconspicuous...

You could secure a sheath to an elastic knee brace and wear it above the knee. I've used ACE brand on my knees and they breathe OK in the summer. They will survive a few washings too. If you wear garter belt and stockings you could secure the sheath to a garter strap.

I have also seen suggested hanging a handle-down neck knife from the bottom of a bra in front or under the arm. A small sturdy metal clip was sold with the knife for just such use, although I think a bit of string or ribbon would be more comfortable. Access could be problematic depending on the design of the dress though.

Or you could sew a small deep pocket hidden in a seam at the side of the dress to keep the knife in. Just big enough to allow a finger and thumb in to grab the knife but small enough to keep the knife vertical and just deep enough to retain the knife without loosing it bit not so deep that you can't reach it

Or perhaps a different last resort for summer use. "Tactical" chopsticks in the hairstyle? An old fashioned hatpin if you wear a hat?

Stop. Here is my experience. What I learned that day is that thigh rigs do not stay in place when rolling on the floor fighting off multiple attackers.

Although I am a male I had occasion once to wear a pistol in a thigh holster. The ONLY reason I as still alive is because the other guy's gun went click-click instead of boom-boom. I was doing something undercover, they did the quick frisk and as planned they missed the thigh holster. A few seconds later is when I learned the real plan was to kill me and take the money they thought I had. We had a pretty good scuffle during which I tried totally without success to retrieve the pistol from the holster. The durn holster twisted from the side of the leg to the rear when a strap loosened, then it hooked in my underwear. In office rehearsals before the Op it was very easy to unzip, reach in and pull out the pistol. If the holster had stayed in place, the plan would have worked. Somehow though in the process of someone bashing the back of my head with a gun butt and falling down with another guy trying to put a pig sticker in my chest and belly the durn thing moved. Put me in the position of kicking the gunman's leg to knock him off balance, restraining a knife hand, ignoring the stars and the roaring in my ears, and unzipping with the other hand, reaching in and finding no holster to grab! Couldn't quite reach the far side of my butt through the front zipper opening. A few seconds of this and even the guy punching my face with his other hand realized I was reaching for something. He rolls aside and the guy with the gun points it at me and it slowly misfires twice. That's when the fight got really good as I had no intention of allowing the third try. Backup eventually arrived and I am still here. In a calmer moment I was able to drop my pants to my knees to untangle the durn thigh holster from my underwear. You better believe I got rid of that thing and no longer would even consider a thigh holster or sheath for any situation where deadly force is a possibility. As someone here stated above, an Ace bandage is much more secure. There used to be a holster type called a Belly Band which goes across the belly or the torso. A modified ACE bandage design with a built in holster. I have used them and trust them much more than I do a thigh holster.
