Hi: I am looking for a thin stock blade, preferably a lockback, that is flat ground and flexible. Years ago I was given an old small Schrade auto with yellow plastic scales. It had a very thin, flexible, wickedly sharp carbon steel blade. It was great for slicing and letter/box opening and was fun to use. It was perfect for slicng friut and since it was so sharp it was a joy to use. I would like to find a modern lockback(multiblade considered) with a thin stock blade. Cost is not an issue. I would like a high quality steel though. Thanks for any feedback/suggestions! Happy Holidays :-)! Dave

I think that you should look at one of Dick Atkinson's custom framelock gent knives. My experience with them is that the blades are flat ground very thin. If you want a production blade, try a Spyderco Calypso Jr (zytel/VG-10). It should fit the bill nicely. If you want a multi blade knife, try a Schrade Old Timer.

Take a look at the Spyderco Catcherman. I think it matches your requirement pretty well.

The recently re-released Spyderco Calypso would probably be right up your alley. That is just a pure slicing knife.

I will checkout all the suggestions. I have heard of Dick's work but have never seen hi knives in person. I will also look up the catcherman. thanks again! Dave

If you're lucky, maybe you can still find an old flat-ground Spyderco G-10 Police.

while not a "modern lockback", the old opinel is still a hard knife to beat for pure cutting....alot of size options, and most between $20-$30usd...

  • thin blade
  • lockback
  • flat ground
  • flexible...maybe

Seki-cut folders have extremely thin stock and edge.

I have the Bob-Lum encounter, and slices very well. D2 blade, micarta handle, smooth action. Cool knife !

and this is what I decided on:

-Kiwi, because it looks so cool and I love jigged bone(for dress)
-Opinel to try out
-Really like the sleekness of the Al Mar falcon...probably perfect for what I like.
- I am going to look in to the Bob Lum encounter.

Thanks for all the help everyone :-)

These are my Xmas presents to myself!

Merry Xmas to all!

Dave
