Is there anyone out there making light use folders with very thin blade stock, 1/8" and less? Working knives of course.

Cliff,
I just took delivery of a VERY nice medium APOGEE[d/a auto] from Darrel Ralph. Blade steel is 420V and it measures .117" at the spine. It has a high, flat grind, leaving just enough flat 'panel'to attach the ambi thumb studs. I haven't had a chance to cut much with it yet, but the blade geometry looks good. I'll post again after a bit of field testing.

I LOVE this knife! More to follow....

I'm not sure of the stock size he uses but Viele grinds a lot of his blades thin.
Check with Les or Arizona and you might turn up a picture. Quality stuff. He makes a slick knife.

Cliff the knife you might be interested is shown on KnifeArt.com's page

The one shown there has the Sandvik steel for the blade. I ended up with one from PJ Tomes with CPM420V blade and man is it one THIN knife. The picture below is a scan showing the thickness, from left to right:
PJ Tomes folder, Chris Reeve Umfaan, Chris Reeve small Sebenza.

The PJ Tomes knife measures just a hair under 3/16" thick, the blade is ground very nice and is a real slicer! But for me the handles were too thin.

Will York told me he carries one in his dayplanner and with it's thin profile it works well. The one I had was a clipless model, you can get them either way.

Guess I'm going to have to second Gary's suggestion. I was thinking about Mastersmith PJ Tomes standard daily carry knife when you asked the question. I handled one for quite a while when I met PJ at a show a few months ago. Opens very easily with a long lozenge shaped hole, and the lock up was outstanding. Very nice little knife. Thin blade. Extremely tough. PJ says it's OK to pry with.

Cliff, I think you would like Mr. Tomes work. He makes no nonsense working knives. His forge work concentrates on 52100 and his stock removal pieces primarily use the sandvik steel. A serious, no frills knife maker. His knives are beautiful to me because they are simple, elegant tools designed to Cut.

If I'm not mistaken, the blade thickness on a large Sebenza is right between .09375" and .125"...so probably like .100".

The Sebenza blade is 1/8" thick, both large and small.

W.C. Davis recently made me some very nice small folders with a Jess Horn boot design blade, 3", 1/8", cocobolo; very reasonably priced.

The blades on most of my knives that I build have a blade thickness of .100 unles I have an order for a thicker one. Check out the pics on my site, some of the knives have shots of the spacer and will give you some sort of idea.
