Thin blades...

Busse is kind of known for really sexy tank-like knives, and as much as I love them... My favorite Busse (of 5 busse/kin I've owned) is a super thin Scrofa I picked up from the exchange. I honestly feel like INFI is wasted on huge thick blades - that much steel is tough regardless of the alloy.

Where it really seems to shine is in the thinner blades, where you actually need that toughness. (Anyone remember the thread a while back where someone was stabbing a Skeleton Key through stacks of quarters? :D)

I'm curious; outside of Custom Shop one-off's, how many thinner blades has Jerry sent out in decent numbers?

I have a Skinny Ash but maybe just skinny compared to an Ash1? Thin Nick?
2 Skelly Keys awaiting Garth's gentle touch in the CS :D

The BAD is one of my favorites. I'm not sure of how many come in the Boney size or if that is the thinnest blade but love them.

There were several of the Game Warden series made at 0.14" thick.

And the Anorexic BOSS Streets were 0.15", IIRC.

Nuclear Muskrat,Leaner Meaner,BAD,Cabs all very sweet blades. Great slicers & versatile.

You are definitely not alone in your love of thINFI.
I'm pretty sure it was Dave Brown stabbing the quarters.

I would love to see a 14" blade at 3/32" thin. I would pay for that.

I agree that thick knives are great for some jobs, but thin knives are better for other tasks. I remember when 3/16" was probably the thinnest Busse available. The thin NICK was unusually thin, but had a pretty specialized purpose as a kitchen knife. The anorexic BA IIIs at about .15" thick still seem fairly popular. There was the Leaner Meaner Street, and the thin Game Wardens. The Active Duty was a big hit, and I especially like the Boney Active Duty at .125" thick (it has a distal taper to the tip, so the tip is extra thin). The Muskrat and Cultellus knives are pretty cool, and both are .125" thick.

Although they are not INFI, the Steak Knives with Elmax steel are very thin at .090" thick and they are hollow ground! I recently acquired a set of these, and while I have not had a chance to use them, I am sure I will be pleased with their performance.

As the knife hobby has grown, more and more people have noted the things that make knives excel. Cutting geometry is one of those things.

I think Jerry has noticed that more people are into lean cutting geometries and has made changes accordingly. (It could just be my drunken imagination though ;P)

The last of the choppers to come out (NMFSH & ASHBM) have had great cutting geometry while still maintaining some hog meat to make them nice and heavy.

Also if I recall correctly some of the AMS's were offered with a lean hollow grind??

Not to mention the Elmax Steak Knives.

And yes I agree, Infi shines even more than before with a lean edge.

I recall seeing a chopping vid of one of the last ASHBM's... It kept binding in a 4x4 because it would bite so deep.

Have a Skelly Key, which is .090, as far as i remember it.

Found a pic of the Key- Will do a better one some other time:

I just snagged an old school Skelly Key and she's a fat 0.1875" (I know, I know, I will get pix up later when I do the next batch o stuff ;) )
It was Dave Brown punching the quarters with a Skelly Key (here and here). Dave drove both a thin and thick Skelly key through quarters.
It's what put me on the hunt for one of those elusive little suckers! :D

As far as the thickness goes, I like a mix of options...

Love 'em both - THINFI and THICKFI - for some of the same AND different reasons. Having a skinny ASH for slicing and a fat ASH for chopping/prying/digging is a GOOD thing! No need to limit things to one or the other, right!?!

How about the Pork Shank @ 0.15" - 0.16", methinks? I just returned a few minutes ago from the post office with my own and very first Shank - courtesy of Bryan/Haole (wonderful to deal with and EZ transaction - thanks, Bryan!) and it is love at first sight!

I like INFI both thick and thin, both have their advantages. My Leaner Meaner is one of my favorite skinny little knives. It does everything I need it to with zero problems.

Here is my ThINFI Skelly Key in .090, next to my SOS Rat Warden and Busse Warden.

Yay me :D. One thick, one thin
Super big thanks to Garth & the Busse crew.
