Thin Sodbuster?

So once my HK Turmoil sells on the Exchange, I'm going to need a replacement. It is probably going to be an Endura, but I have always liked the Sodbuster pattern.

I reall like the GEC Bullnose but I would probably just get a Case. Are there any alternatives that are thinner? I just don't want something half an inch thick in my pocket hahaha. Also, let's try to keep the price under $75.

Thanks!

The bullnose with nifebrite handle scales is thinner than the other models. I'd suggest checking that one out.

The bone-handled Case Sod Buster Jr knives are rather flat, compared to the Delrin-handled models. They should be available for around $40 if you shop around. Several different handle materials to choose from.

There is a carbon fiber sodbuster also. It is about 1/4" thick (same as the bone, I believe).

First I want to say that the Case Delrin sodbuster's are pretty slim in my pocket, so much so I forget they are there; that said, if you want a USA manufactured sodbuster, then the Bear & Son G10 Farmhand should be on your wish list. G10 handles, no liners, making for an exceptionally slender profile, and offered in non locking as well as locking models, in three colors, classic yellow, black, and a blue "Blue Jean" series...all for less than $45.00 MSRP, less if you shop well.

Wood-handled Case are also thinner and may please you as well. :)
I have bone / wood / delrin and dare I say i use the delrin everyday. That is Case black delrin and Queen burgundy. Both are top knives.

Thanks guys!

I like the Carbon Fiber Sodbusters but I don't think they're worth the extra money. I looked at the BladeHQ specs and the Sodbusters are actually a lot thinner then I thought
I handled one a while ago and remembered it being about as thick as my large Trapper but they are actually more than a tenth of an inch thinner (the same thickness as an Endura actually haha). For $22, I might just order a Blue Delrin model...

The Bone CASE in cv is slim and around 40 USD so quite the bargain.

On the other hand, a Sodbuster is essentially a work-knife and having thicker rounded handles is a positive advantage when holding a knife for prolonged work. Those clad in delrin are not heavy either. You should take a look at Queen Cutlery's Coutry Cousin (their Sodbuster) smaller than the CASE more rounded handles and D2 a great pocket knife for around 30 USD.

Why not the non-locking GEC Bull Buster...for about $20.00+ less, and a pivot that's embellished with the F&F stamping, you can't go wrong; of course, the Mudbug or Bull Buster (both GEC knives) are quite the handful size wise, so if your needs require a jumbo sized sodbuster, then my money goes for the GEC Bull Buster. Get it here, and with free shipping: http://www.collectorknives.net/grea...er-farm-and-field-black-linen-micarta-215115/

The case damascus burnt cream bone sodbuster was pretty thin....it can be had for around 75-80

Just a thought, check out the AG Russell Ranchers. Its a sodbuster pattern and comes in 4 different cover materials, including all classic yellow. Much thinner than the normal collection of sodbusters from Case, GEC, Queen, etc. I have all 4 versions and they are really well made and very pocket friendly, particularly for the price. Blades are stainless.
Nice knives!

The AGR Rancher might be the only traditional knife I'd ever buy in 8Cr13Mov.

Nice pic, Will, I love the soft yellow of the RR, and it's my favorite pattern of theirs, as well.

Thanks y'all, I really appreciate the suggestions. Right now I think I'm still leaning towards a Case or GEC. None of the others have the "look" I am looking for.

By the best quality soddie on the production market: GEC bullnose (another run is soon coming). Then chuck it in a vice lengthwise and use a strip of sandpaper held with an end in each hand and pull downward while sanding to achieve a flattened and rounded profile. Repeat until the covers are thin to your taste.

Example of what this will look like here:

I was thinking about doing this. I'm just concerned about loosening the pivot and pins

Interesstimg points in this thread. But a Sodbuster is a Hippekniep for me and it traditionally is a dedicated working knife. For longer working periods as well. I like the way most of them are built, the thicker handle gives a better grip, especially when working longer with that knife.

But have you almost looked at the Hippeknieps from Carl Schlieper - the synthetic handles seem to be thinner/slimmer than may CASE´s or GEC´s.
