Things I seriously considered but didn't buy at Blade 06

Okay, so it's fun to see hear and see people's scores. I thought I'd open up a slightly tangent thread to that on things that we seriously considered but didn't get for whatever reason. Mine were:

1. An Al Pendray large integral hunter from a dealer's case. Plain carbon (not Wootz) steel and amber dyed carver stag. I didn't get it because I didn't really know what the prices were for Al's knives. I've wanted a Wootz one for awhile as a collection/investment, but haven't done enough homework on it.

2. An Al Pendray Wootz integral with fossil ivory handle. Same dealer's case. Smaller knife than the one above and 37% more expensive. Wasn't ready to pull the trigger on something like that after having spent most of my money already. It would have pushed me over the budget limit I gave myself for the show. And again, same problem as with the above in that I haven't really done enough research into this.

3. A tanto (small sword, not "tactical" American knife) from the company Dynasty Forge. It was the last day of the show and I was somewhat punchy and suddenly had an inkling to buy a good production Japanese style sword. The tanto was really not that much longer than a big bowie so I was trying to justify buying it. Luckily I was able to tell myself that it could spiral me into a much much more expensive part of the hobby.

4. A big long kitchen cleaver from some Italian company. Integral construction in Sandvik steel. For $90 I should have bought it. Again it was the last day and I was a bit punchy and knew I was somewhat punchy so might have been more careful in not pulling the trigger.

5. A Marbles-ish hunter by Gary Wheeler at a dealer's table. Gary is good friends with Kim Breed and the two share a table. I have a couple of Gary's hunters and I love to use them. They're what I consider good looking user customs. And I lhave this fondness for makers's takes off the classic Marbles Woodcraft. The dealer's price was way too high though. Gary's prices at his own table were pretty high this year too.

6. A hunter by R. Sfreddo with inlaid mother of pearl over the handle pins and a carved m.o.p butt cap. In the end the rather plain grain of the Brazilian rosewood handle turned me off to it. Besides which I had decided on a different piece from him.

7. Outdoor Edge's folding caper. Really nice looking knife with good materials and construction. Only $25. I think I figured I could always order off a site so no sense in buying something that could end up being a spur of the moment thing.

1. Hanson's walrus bowie - even better in person
2. Sfreddo bowie - mammoth, carbon steel, gorgeous detail work
3. Cashen bowie - walrus, damascus - perfection
4. David Anders coffin bowie - mammoth scales and damascus
Every one of them was absolutely top notch in my book, I just couldn't swing the $$ :(
5. Kelly Carlson assisted opener - very sweet little knife, saw it too late in the game
