I wasn't going to go to Maine with my wife's family this year but since my dog has passed, my reason for staying home is gone. I was going to stay home and take care of her instead of boarding her.

Anyway, I'm just looking for anything I shouldn't miss within an hour or so of OOB. I've had some okay meals but nothing special and not being a water person, I don't really want to go on a boat tour or deep sea fishing.

Thanks.

First of all I am very sorry for your loss. A pet is truly a part of the family.

as far as vacation goes walking the beach is always fun and old orchard has the best sand in the world imo for sandcastles.( many a year ago my father won the local competition without knowing he was competing) the clambake restaurant is a must for local sea food. there are still a few drive in movie theatres in the area and the carousel is very old and worth seeing. the boardwalk is a great place to spend a day walking around though less so now than it used to be as condos have taken over half of what it used to be. I used to go every year in my childhood. last time I went I was turned away from almost every campground because I wasn't 21. I havnt gone back since. I was 20 then working full time and taking my first vacation as an adult and my first in years and was very upset to have been treated the way I was. I truly hope you enjoy Old orchard as It has always been a magical place for me in the past. have not been able to afford to go back since then. I guess life changes. As for other attractions you might be better off in bar harbor if you don't enjoy the water... as there is more to do there like whale watching cruises and such. good luck on your vacation.

Thanks for the info and the kind words. I was actually looking forward to spending the week just with the dog, but life changes as you said. Sometimes faster than you want.

I've always liked just wandering around near the pier and people watching. I will definitely do that. I've never been to bar harbor so I will look into that.
