I really can't stress this enough.
I made a terrible mistake today. I got myself suspended from a forum I frequent by accidentally posting some lingo on the site which had very bad unintended implications. This happened because I did not understand the implications of this particular term in the context in which I used it, and did not go to the effort to confirm the actual meaning of the term.
I am not criticizing the mods on that site, the implications of what I said go directly against the site's CoC and were completely out of line by me. The mods were totally justified in suspending me.
I can not stress enough, KNOW WHAT YOU ARE SAYING BEFORE YOU POST!!!! DON'T MAKE STUPID MISTAKES LIKE THIS!!!!
I feel like an utter moron now, and want to warn the rest of you against my mistake.

If an obviously thoughtful individual like yourself gets banned for using a word or a term ambiguous enough to be easily misused, maybe the forum should also reconsider its actions.

The forum was justified in the suspension.
What I said implied criminal activity on my part. No moderator can let that go. To be honest I respect the forum's mods a lot. They gave me a fair sentence (as far as I know I am not permanently banned) and allowed me to apologize and explain myself.
Overall, it was a good learning experience, and a lesson I won't soon forget.
 
Don't let it bug you. It is obvious it was a mistake and the fact that you are straight up about making it says volumes about your character. Everyone screws up; it is how we handle them publicly and privately and how we react to those screw ups that defines the type of person we are.

I would write them and explain. Here we would probably let you back in and I bet a reasonable person in the other forum would do the same. If not, that is their right and I would not let it bother me; I would just learn from it and move on to learn from the next one.
 
its alright... its just the internet....if you can't offend people on the internet what can you do?
