Well after a long search for a new carry I bought a new in the box Kershaw 1580 BOA in S30v for $64 plus shipping tonight..What do you think on the choice and price paid?

BOA is a n ice folder. I have an older BOA (in S90V) and she is built to last. I think you'll be happy with your new BOA if you were looking for a working folder with less flair. :)

Congrats !

The BOA is a very nice, heavier duty knife with awesome materials. I think you'll like it a lot.

Beluga: Did you mean S60v? I wasn't aware of any Kershaws that have been made in s90v however I'm definately no historian.

Yep, the older model Boas were produced in S60V, labeled 440V. None that I know of in S90V. Either way, the Boa is an exceptional folder whichever variety you have. I have several and they see regular pocket time, despite how many new models have come out since they first showed up.

Good score!

I did some research on it before I bought it..My knives see a lot of farm/outdoor use so I wanted one with some beef..

The Boa is a tough knife. Probably the toughest they have made, short of something from the ZT line. I have a few of them, and since misplacing my MUDD, one of the Boas has become my work knife.

A little history about this knife. A Ken Onion design, they were first released with 440V, and came in two styles: black T6061 anodized scales with a DLC coated blade, and a multi-color (1580MC) with a satin finished blade. The 1580MC was a regular production piece made from late 2001 thru 2003. It was also available in a CE (1580MCST), and that one was made only in 2002. There were 394 of the 1580MCs released, and 311 pieces of the 1580MCST. Some of the DLC coated ones were released with the blade etched "S60V", and the later ones were all S30V.

In 2000, the Boa won the IWA “International Knife of the Year" award.

You got a great knife at a great price. Enjoy it!

Thanks for the info, Im a Kershaw fan to start with and liked the boas design and reputation..I use to collect a lot, then got more into making knives and hawks. Collecting took a back seat. I feel the bug again :p

Some times you get those great discontinued "must move" prices. That's how much I paid for mine not too long ago as well :)

My boa sees more pocket time than just about any knife I have. BTW, I have the S60V model. You will find it's pretty light, and when carried tip up it sits very deep in the pocket. I also took the thumbstud off, as I found that I never used it and it kept digging into my thigh. You scored a really great and underrated knife my friend.
