I've been carrying a BM 630 for a while now. I like big folders and this one had an interesting blade shape to it, to me. Never had a recurve before. I like the cutting ablity of it but made it a pain in the ass to sharpen on a flat stone which is what was available at work. Where I use knives the most. I use knives hard which is why I spend the money....very improtent tools. Unfortunatly 2 collapsed on me last month, and my 630 is very much injured at the moment. 2 framelocks and a liner. I didn't mash rocks or pry, just use. Went fishing, and after cleaning used the spine to tap off the scales on low grade plastic cutting board. It collapsed to me big surprise.

So the point of this thread is I feel its time for me to move on to a manix or a chinook. I'm asking how tough the lock is on these knives, and how much they can take for use.

I can't answer your question about the Manix or Chinook, but... I'm sure there are a lot of people (myself included) that would be interested to hear the details of those lock faliures. You should seriously consider posting those details in "Knife Reviews and Testing".

I carry a Chinook II and a 630(plus a few others). I don't use them hard, but I like knowing I could if I need to.
The Chinook/Manix lock is strong, lockbacks are tough to start with, a nice thick overbuilt one even better.
I think any lock can fail. If you get enough gunk/lint/dirt/whatever in the lock, it can cause it to disengage.
You might want to look at a Strider. They are even more overbuilt then a Manix/Chinook or a 630. Just an idea.
