I've been forging 5160, 1084 & 1095 for the most part. I haven't tried 52100 yet but, I'm thinking of getting some. What's the big difference as far as forging & heat treating his stuff? Or is there one? Is there a thread where this topic has already been beaten to death?
:D

Max forging temp - 2100 F. Ac3 - 1440 F. Try it , if it doesn't work you can always make a ball bearing out of it LOL.

J. all I can say is DON'T get swallowed up in, there's only one way to heat treat 52100. I do forge it at the lower forging heats, and don't over hammer it when cooling, like with any steel. Keep it hot.
I've found that the most critical heats are the quenching heats, if you don't have an oven, pay really close attention to that magnet, and keep the blade moving to get a good even heat through out, just like you do with all your blades. With your talent you won't have any trouble, and I think you'll find that 52100 is a very impressive steel.

Mete....LOL

yes!, I believe that for some lucky guy, there is a grand future in store for him, as he forges all of my crappy blades into ball bearings, and then selling them to Ed Fowler.....

(Where do you think 3 inch ball bearings came from anyway?)
