maybe one w/ a straight edge, tanto (maybe a Mini-Griptilian). What else would you recommend in the same price range, similar quality?

I'm not too deep into knives. At the moment and have a Spyderco Meerkat, Buck Sirus, and Benchmade 770. Just looking for another daily carry knife.

Thanks very much in advance!

Check out the Spyderco Manix 2, I just got one and I like it, I'm carrying it today. It has a caged ball lock and 154cm blade steel, and is in the same price range as the BM Grip. I also have a BM Grip and it's also a great knife I just like the Manix 2 better, that's just my opinion.

I like the looks of that, thanks for the heads-up!

I have a Griptilian and although I like the design and blade, I am not too big on the plastic feel and strength of the handle.

I personally would pay the extra money and get a Manix 2 as been suggested or a Benchmade such as the 710.

I agree with this idea, the Manix 2 is in a class by itself when compared to the grip. I have the blue S30V and the foliage green XHP variants. I love the feel and sturdiness of this knife, it was truly engineered for comfort and cutting power in mind. I do need to get myself a 154CM Manix 2 next.

What are you doing with the blade that the handle is not strong enough for you? I can understand that you don't like the feel of it, but could you elaborate on your thoughts on the strength of the handle?

To the OP, when you as a question on a forum dedicated to knife-nuts, you can't expect to get a definitive answer when you ask a question like "What knife should I get?" That price range offers tons of options, and generally people are going to recommend what they like, which you may hate... I'd recommend maybe going to a store and handling as many knives as possible if you must narrow your decision down to to one blade.

I have a 551 griptilian with plain edge. I love it. If you have big hands, get the regular Grip.

I thought about what you are saying. I just spent about half an hour handling this knife and will concede that it is the feel I do like. I iniatially said the strength as there is alot of flex on the handle (I can squeeze the two sides in about 1-2 millimeters) but I agree with you that the handle should be able to withstand normal use for basic knife functions.

I don't think you can beat the Griptilian. It is an amazing knife for its price range and overall in general. I carried a 551 PE for 2 years straight. Now it still is carried but as more of a rotation then exclusively, and even then it gets more pocket time then anything else.

In regards to the handle I have hand this knife doing many many things and the handle was never a concern for me. It is a very well built knife, I would say pull the trigger and do it.

IMO nothing beats a mini griptilian for EDC, not even the spyderco delica, which is my second choice.

are u sure all the bolts i tight? i have felt a grip b4 and i don't believe it flexed like that.

WARNING!!! Don't get the Grip....unless you are ok with owning several more BM knives in the future, cause that will happen.

+1 to that.... i started with a 555HG mini-grip (EXCELLENT edc knife) and picked up a pair of full-sized tanto grips, one plain satin and one black combo-edge. i don't care for the tanto blade per se, but both were on sale so i couldn't let them pass. still in the market for a regular blade shape, either the original or the sheepsfoot with the opening hole.

Have an orange full size Ritter Griptillian; great knife; am thinking (if I hadn't just bought 5 other knives recently) about a mini-Grip same set-up.
