Thinking about a Leather Inlaid Sebenza, please rave about it.

Hi I am thinking of getting a large Sebenza with the leather inlays and would like to hear from people who have one, or have an opinion about one. I was wondering about the durability of the leather. I would be carrying the knive everyday clipped to the waistband, or pocket, of my jeans, how do you think it will hold up? How about if it gets wet? are there any cleaning issues I should be aware of? I think it is one of the best looking knives I have seen in a while, particularly with the blue leather. Thanks.

I can't speak for the leather inlays, but the Sebenza itself is one of the finest knives made.

I'm sure the leather inlays will hold up fine with daily carry and use. I haven't had a problem with mine and don't expect to anytime soon. IMO, don't get the leather soaking wet; it's still leather and might shrink, but I've never heard of that happening.

Unfortunately, the inlays don't make the handle slabs "thicker" since they're flush with the surface of the slabs, but do give the knife a different feel. Instead of the cold titanium like the standard handles, the leather gives the knife some "warmth" and it looks damn good as well.

Hope that helps a little.

You can't go wrong with a sebbie. I have a small classic woodie that is my EDC and I love it. I would imagine the leather to be pretty durable, but like others said I would try to avoid soaking it, it is still leather after all. If anything where to happen to it through normal use I'm sure CRK would take care of it.

Get one !

Sebbies are a proven knife that are backed up by one of the top (if not THE top) customer service outfits !

The leather inlays stand up to just about anything (except industrial strength chemicals). ;) I've had mine for over a year and a half and no problems with shrinkage, pulling up, etc.

Besides. . .if you do have problems (which I doubt that you ever will). . .you can always send it back to CRK and have it fixed in almost no time. :D

I've had a couple of the leather inlays and really liked them. The leather is from France and is the same leather used to construct Gucci products. The only problem I experienced was having the edge of one inlay rise up ever so slightly. I emailed CRK to inguire about using a drop of super glue to repair it and was asked to send it in instead so Chris could look at it and see what caused the problem.......needless to say it was repaired with all new leather inserts and sent back to me in record time! The leather had not actually lifted as much as it had sorta seperated top to bottom and then only slightly.

On another topic, have you considered the wood inlaid Classics? I have two of these along with two le woodies and really like the "extra" width it gives to the knife. It is not much extra but enough from the regular slab side to notice a difference.

Whatever you get, like the others have said, you'll have the finest production knife made.

Thanks for the replys, very helpful. I have considered getting a wood inlaid model, but I am afraid that I like the look of the leather model quite a bit more. I will probably end up getting one if I can find someone that has them in stock.
