Thinking about a new Kershaw

and I've narrowed down my choices to a Blur S30V, or the Blur SG2. I've been recently biten by the Kershaw bug, and I have a Mini Cyclone ZDP enroute. Well I like to get my knives in pairs also, and my little collection needs a little more blade length. Anyways I'm interested in one of the above metioned Blurs and am interested in the quality of the liner lock, as well as the blade steelsand ease of sharpening. I want a heavy use knife(construction) and I'm hoping the Blur will be what I'm looking for.

TIA
Dave

the SG2 blur should be perfect for that. it cuts well, and shaprens well. they are not frame locks so thats a slight downside. if ya wait a lil bit, Kershaw is coming out with a JYD2 in SG2 with Ti frame lock. that will be a freakin awsome knife

I'm a big fan of the Lahar. With it's solid backstrap and great handle design it's excellent for heavy use. Really comfortable in the hand, and being a flipper folder, it's easy to open with either hand and has good protection against sliding up on the blade.

You're going to need a full-sized Cyclone to go with your "Mini".:).

I would like to get something with a blade length at 3.5". I really don't need anything longer for my needs. Not too mention local carry laws really frown on anything longer 3". I also have 4 other knives in the 7"OAL that are great EDC's, so I'd like too get something a bit longer. I mainly like the Blur SG2 because it looks different, the Liner lock is the only thing standing in my way from hitting the send button. If it were a frame lock/backlock it would be on it's way.

Check out the Groove for great looks and a frame lock...and the ENER-G is an excellent choice, too. I wouldn't worry about the liner lock on this one. Mine opens very fast, and locks up securely.

I personally like the speed bump and spec bump series, they are going to be about the same money as the blur family, but they will have a stronger and safer locking system. The "bump" family has the stud lock. this can hold a significant amount of weight and pressure that a liner lock can't handle, not to mention when working the knife side to side you won't have to worry about nudging the liner to the side and have an accident. The stud lock is out of the way of your fingers and won't be affected by your grip. The stud lock is also ambidextrous. I know we can all work our way around a liner lock, but the stud lock is actually opened and closed the same way with either hand. The speed bump is going to have a 13C26 blade which has about a 59-61 RC which is pretty darn good for it not being considered a premium steel. The spec bump however is going to have your S30V steel which is great and looks really cool seeing as how it is all black and has G-10 scales. I do like the blur family, but if you want a good work knife and are worried about the lock slipping go for the stud lock, the bump family is the same price as the blurs, but with, in my opinion, a better all around locking system. Let me know if this helps, J.

The Bump might be worth waiting for, since the Liner lock talked me out of the Blur series.

I did get my Mini Cyclone ZDP, and so far I'm a tiny bit disappointed. The blade has some very slight side to side play, and when I try to tighten the pivot, too remove it, it makes the knife too stiff. So now I have to tolerate a little blade play for smooth operation :( On the plus side I think the ergos are great, a nice solid feeling knife, although I'd have liked an extra 1/2" on the handle, it does fit my hand well enough. I also like the look of the titanium frame and blake blade, sweett looking knife. I'll give it some time to wear in, and it may get a trip back to Kershaw for some fine tuning.
