Thinking about a peanut....

I'll put this question to you all and see what you guys and gals think.

I've been considering a peanut. If you have been around this forum for a couple years, you might remember the story of my little girl and subsequent peanut purchase.

To paraphrase, I wasn't sure what knife I wanted to get to celebrate Kinsey's birth. When she came out, the doctor said, "oh what a little peanut!" So......I got a peanut. I even got lucky and got one made on her birthday. I carried it for a while, but I almost lost it, so I stopped. She's getting to where she is going to start remembering Daddy's knife and I'd like her to have fond memories of a little knife, because I'm going to give her the original peanut on her wedding day. I'd like to get another one carry now, and if I don't lose it, if give it to her groom on that special day.

I'd like carbon steel so it ages as I use it, especially since it's going to have a story attached. Any suggestions?

And, since this thread needs pictures:

And, two days ago. Yeah, she picked out every single piece of that outfit herself. She's going to be 3 in February, but she is a spitfire!

***I kept getting interrupted over the last four hours while I tried to write the above, but I think I've figured it out, maybe. Heck I don't know. I'm thinking maybe a yellow Case to mirror her knife, except in carbon steel. I'd like to find a New in Box from 2012, ideally February, but that is likely not going to happen. Maybe just something totally different but still a peanut. I don't know, I'm open to suggestions.

I guess you can't go wrong with either the Case Peanut CV in Chestnut bone or the yellow one. Also, great pictures, congratulations, and God bless!

Given all that you've invested in Peanut's peanut, and your fear of losing it?

I recommend getting whatever CV yellow peanut you can get your hands on the easiest/most affordably, regardless of date, so that you can simply use it from here on out without undue concern. [I realize this is why you want a second peanut to begin with, but my encouragement is to not then layer it with more meaning or challenges in acquiring the Right One.]

Yellow, because it matches hers, and because a yellow cv peanut stands the best chance of remaining in Case's current production vs. those with other cover materials.

If anything should happen to your user peanut, you can then replace it with few the wiser.

(I'd say with none the wiser, but if I recall you have some canny customers among your brood.;))

Have fun!

As a new dad I would want to mirror her knife. I may even try to get 2 more just in case. That is why my signature is looking for the Tidioute 061113 in ebony :)

Love the pics by the way! My little girl isn't old enough to pick her clothes yet. But, I look forawrd to the day she comes out dressed the way she wants.

P - I didn't even think about that! Ok, let me rephrase that to say; I can't wait for the FIRST TIME she comes out after picking what she wants.

I am SO quoting this back to you in 10-16 years. :D

Yeah, after the 5th pair of shoes she tries on then says no to, every single time we go out, it gets......challenging. She loves those sparkle-y does she has on in the picture and her 3 1/2 year old brother's Spiderman boots. Very much a boot phase right now.

Sarah, I think you might be right. Basic yellow peanut in cv might just be the ticket.

I think I agree with P as well. My original thought was for something more extravagant, like damascus, but it in all honesty a user should be easily replaceable and one your willing to carry and use. A yellow CV nut is just the knife. I also agree with Brett that it might be worthwhile to pick up a couple, you know, just in case. Cheers

Well I'm going to go against the majority and say go with bone, my first daughter was born 11/30/11 and this peanut was under the tree as a gift from her 24 days later, I've carried it everyday since, I'm approaching three years of everyday carry of this peanut, and sure the blades have earned a great patina, but the scales have developed a warmth of their own, if it were yellow delrin it would look the same as the day received, maybe a few scratches, but I like that the scales have mellowed out with age as I have also.

I'm carrying a yellow Delrin peanut today and have several in my rotation but my favorite is the chestnut bone CV.

My other Peanut (I have two) is a chestnut in CV. I love the chestnut bone, you can't go wrong with that. :)

Pete, I love that knife and that story more every time you post it! I can't believe it's been almost three years. It seems like yesterday.

Well, I'm still no further. I much prefer bone to delrin, but I'd also like to have one that mirrors hers. Sigh.....what to do? Lol. No one say both, that's not going to work. I have to make a decision....

Get the bone. It will mirror hers in that it is a peanut but that CV and bone will age perfectly to give to her groom one day. It will be a perfect his and hers gift.
