i've been on a spyderco kick, since i already carry a sak, i want something pretty small. was thinking about a dragonfly or meadowlark (i want to keep it around the $40 mark) i like the persistence but i'm not a big liner lock fan any suggestion's?
also any pic's would be sweet, (especially of the dragonfly):)

Hmmmm dragonfly is good but I would only get it if you are going to carry without the clip as the clip on the FRN version isnt that great in my opinion.

FPD

the leafstorm is nice but way out of my price range, i know the dragonfly is small but is it still pretty decent for edc task?

oh i didnt see the price constraint, well one thing i like about spydies is that they cut above their size, a d fly would probably suffice for EDC cutting.

You might check out the Meerkat. It has a small blade, and the lock mechanism is really unique. I love mine.

My advice would be that if you want to test drive a Spyderco, buy a Spyderco instead of a Byrd. Trust your gut to avoid the linerlock and go with a Dragonfly. Other non-linerlock choices at the $40 mark would be a Centofante 3 or 4 or a used Delica. The D4 is a classic, but I actually prefer the Dragonfly with its FFG and choil.

I agree that the Meerkat is really cool - Mrs. Tradja loves her 440C Meerkat and her Sprint Meerkat. But good luck finding one for $40.

The dragonfly is a nice little knife that is easier to hold than it's small size would lead you to believe. Sometimes you can find the white ones for under $30 and dye them any color you want. If you can't find one for that price, I'd spend the extra and get a Meerkat. IMO it's a lot better knife and worth every penny more.

i actually like the white handle dragonfly's but everywhere i look their out of stock, was it a limited run or something?

I do believe it was a sprint run. I think I got mine from Poor fish but that was a few months ago. They look sweet but get dirty if you touch them. :)

I also got a white dragonfly from poorfish and it was a great deal. I haven't had any problems for it as an EDC for my city slicker life. I've used it for many tasks and it hasn't failed me. even used it on cardboard and it's still shaving sharp. I'm very happy with it as my choice for my first knife but I can't wait for the FFG delicas and enduras!:D

EDIT: not to derail the thread but is there a thread with a guide on dying the dragonfly handle? I really like the white but it does stain easily and it'd be cool if I could dye it blue to match my future delica. Please PM me if you could.

I also got my white dragonfly from poorfish, through amazon. i saw how the clip was molded FRN and didn't actually touch the handle and i never put it in my pocket. it's a great knife for the collection though and i have considered getting the g-10 dragonfly but i can't justify the price for that size knife.

Don't rule out the Cat or the Chicago, they are a little more than you want to spend but both can be had for under $50(in the neighborhood of $45 if you look around) each and you get the nice carbon fiber handle with s30v steel!

There is also the new persistence. it's a smaller version of the tenacious and you can get it for around $30

I would just put out the extra coin for the FG g-10 Dragonfly, it will be worth it, its a great little knife..

I've had a CF Dragonfly for years now and it's a great size for EDC.
