Got a few glasses of wine in me, and I was thinking about doing some knife shoppin'. Not sure what I want to buy, but there a few I was eyeballing. Recent purchases (within the last 9 days) I made was I got me a Jeff Randall Special, Tramontina 18" bush machete, a Fiddleback Forge 12" natural micarta machete (known as the Natty Mike), and an el cheapo banger blade I picked up of a guy I know, actually good blade, but in dire need of some spa treatment. Damn thing still has blood, hair, and tallow on it from 3yrs ago.

Now the Tram breaks my American Company/American Product rule on steel, but I offset that with a AC/AP purchase of the FBF Machete. Andy is one helluva handle maker.

But I just sent off some small fixed blades (read BK14's) to some guys that won them and needed them. Derek didn't need it, but he won it. The other 3 went to some buds in on leave that are going back to sand city in a couple of months. They asked for them and so, I got them.

But, sheath sales have been up, and I gots me some scratch to spend on some American Steel, sold by American companies, made with American hand, on American machines (probably not, but its my fantasy, shut up), so,

What AMERICAN product would you buy if you was me?

I been wanting to buy a new folder, but don't need one.
I been wanting to buy a new small fixed blade, but don't need one.
I been wanting to buy a new medium size fixed blade, but don't need one.
I been wanting to buy a new whoopass chopper, but don't need one.

Suggestions? Recommendations?

I been wanting to buy a new folder, but don't need one. - Go traditional, just give a stockman a try.
I been wanting to buy a new small fixed blade, but don't need one. - You need a BOW LEGGED JOE from Fiddleback
I been wanting to buy a new medium size fixed blade, but don't need one. - I really like the Fletcher Delta Foxtrot.
I been wanting to buy a new whoopass chopper, but don't need one. - WILLIAM.M really loves his Siegles and they look good to me.

I just sent Bladite a PM pretty similar to this thread. Moose PM inbound.

AND THAT WAS MY ONE THOUSANDTH POST.

get some beer

If American, you drink Bourbon

like this, Kentucky's finest

American, and made in Tennessee. Ha.

But I don't drink and post no more, after my last little "episode".

Good suggestions, but too much money. Gots to stay on the lean here fella. Plus, I don't like beating up expensive blades.

 I agree with bladite on this one

Well if you're feeling generous you can buy me a new Delica. I just lost mine at work the other day. :p

If I were spending your money:

A Buck C-SAR- Nice and robust beast of a folder, right up your alley. Buck is a fine US company with an exceptional warranty and service.

Esee4- not much to say about Esee that you don't already know. The 4 is about the best size knife they have if you ask me

JK knives Kephart, classic design that you can have John make for you with handle material of your choice. Not only a good knife but made by a real nice guy.

Big Ass chopper! Junglas if you don't have one, the thing is ridiculously useless but ridiculously awesome at the same time, love mine!

There you have my opinion Moose, now get liquored up and do it:D

I was gonna say cold steel but I don't think they are made in America anymore; let alone use American steel.

if you're doing kydex also I'd buy more stock-- No wait that's probably not U.S. made, well then buy some more grommets or rings thingamagig--AHH, that's most likely not U.S. either.. Isn't condor made in the U.S.:rolleyes:

Hmm, I wonder who makes shoelaces?.. :p

J/K, well if it were me I'd upgrade some of my tools so I could bust work out easier and faster, if you haven't already.. this way down the road (when you pump out twice as much product in the same amount of time) you will be sittin pretty..

other than that, my current needs/wants would be spyderco, I know, I know its not all from colorado, I actually dig their seki blades, as a matter of fact I think the Japanese blades are some of the finest in the WORLD !!

are you set/happy with gear?? go that route..

happy trails,

btw, what kind a wine you drinking?? For the buck I think all of BareFoot's stuff is really good, if you haven't already, check it out..

The really cool thing, is my sheath money is my money free and clear, so I do get to spend it on stuff I want. LOL.

I like knives.

Gear, pretty good on that, my 0 degree stuff came in that I got before Christmas and the other 3 seasons, I'm good.

I have been looking at the Spydies, I just don't know if I want another one. I got rid of the last 4 that I have had, and I just seem to not want them after getting them. Weird.

Wine is Livingston. Cheap, like $15 for 3 litres. But I don't get drunk off it, and it just kinda mellows me. When I get drunk, I won't be on the forums. Learned my lesson.

I'm not saying that you should, but I would recommend some Yellow Tail Australian wine. Those come in big bottles :D I like it I also like the Jacobs Creek. I don't think it's to horribly expensive.

I guess I got spoiled on good wine when I was in the Navy. All those countries out there do have some good things about 'em. ;)

OK, I'll play for a little while. It's always fun to play what if, especially with other people's money.

New folder: Buck's Vantage. Great blade shape. Comes in two sizes, small and large. Three grades (the old Sears good, better, best) with the Select using Buck's 420HC steel, which they do a good job on, the Avid, using Sandvik's 132C26 razor blade steel, but tough, because micron sized grains, and Pro with S30V. The handles also go from Zytel to Paperstone to G-10. American company, American Steel (except Sandvik), made in Post Falls, ID.

Or as suggested above, go old school with slipjoint. My current favorite is old Schrade USA 897UH, with elegant California clip main blade.

Small fixed blade: Arbitrary 2-4" Your photo shows screen image of Eskabar, so I'm guessing that's what's coming. But do you have USA made BK13 Remora? How about Spyderco Mule Team 10, with Carpenter Steel's CTS-BD1. American company, American Steel, made in Golden CO. And you get to make your own sheath and handle scales, because it doesn't come with either. Why not try an Izula or II. I'd like to see an Eskabar II, with that 1/2" longer handle. Hey Ethan, Toooj, Eskabar II? And how about one in stainless, ooh, one of the fine grained Sandvik steels? Speaking of which, I'm sure you have mucho Becker Neckers, but do you have one of the BK-11 CSM San Mai ones? I know, not American steel. Why aren't American steelmakers making laminated steels like the Japanese and Swedes?

Medium fixed blade: We know you likee many, many BK-2s, but how many have micarta handles? How many Magnum Camps do you have yet, and have stripped?

Large chopper: Do you have have Tac Tools? How about the Woodman's Pal? A classic since WWII.

I will now stop babbling, and return quietly to my adult beverage(s). :D

Hey Moose! Did you already preorder one of the Ritter/Becker knives? If not....that might be a consideration. Another consideration if you don't have one.......try to find an older CS Trailmaster? That would be a great chopper. :) Perhaps even save for a Laser Strike or the stainless Esee 4? I dunno.......just throwing ideas out there........let us know what you wind up getting. :)

If BKT makes it, I own it, so, I'm good on Beckers, for now. I actually have a few that don't exist, LOL.

I went with another Izula and kept it light. My little girl and I were out back playing with some knives and she kept checking out my BK14, and her Izula (pink). She asked why the handles looked the same, but the "pointy part didn't" I told her about the companies and my friends Jeff, Mike and Ethan (E she knows) and how they wanted to do a knife collaboration (had to explain what that was). She told me I should get one that looks like hers so when we go out and practice, we have the same knife. :D

So, ever since ma moms took my other Izula, I got an OD green kit from Dale Stoops. Gotta love free shipping. So, that was what I decided to buy, put some money back for the next knife buying episode. Should be about 4 days by my usual practices.

Hate to disappoint, lots of good suggestions, and I actually did interwebz research on all of the suggested items, except dogs and condoms. I have no need for either, LOL

Good night, ya'll.

If you want to buy American, I would suggest a Bark River.

The Fox River is a great hunter/bushcraft knife. Here's mine in the Recurve and Original version.

Or if you want a full size bushcrafter- I love the Aurora

How about a 12" Ontario machete? You could modify it the way Pict does and run it through it's paces. You should be able to get one for under $30.

Randall.

Not Jeff Randall. Randall.
