Thinking about getting a Bark River Golok

Thoughts? Assume they make a decent chopper while retaining some brush clearing ability.

Also, what about steel? My understanding is the orginals were A2, then they switched to 0170-6, and then new ones are 1095. Should I get a new one or find one in one of the older steels?

Rich,

Get one! I'd love one in A-2, but my new model cuts like hell!

they look like beasts! i have been considering one for a while. do they come with that baldric rig?

Tedwca is correct, the sheath comes with it, the baldric attachment and strap are available from Sharphooter. Mine was an unanticipated gift from Grampa (WS&S member), but I not sure if he just hands them out to all who have a Golok:D (thanks again Grampa!). I found the sheath pretty uncomfortable to wear on the hip, the baldric rocks!

The BRKT golok is relatively light and compact. I carry mine on my belt. I'll save the Baldric for heavy choppers like the Busse FFBM. The Golok is fast and very handy around the yard or camp. It is great for precision trimming. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a superb chopper.

i have the more recently made golok and absolutly love mine. I f you decide to order one make sure to ask the seller for one with a straight blade, many of them have a slight bend due to the heat treat process.

I got one on HD's recommendation and it is excellent....his cutlass version where he put a point on one would be even better though.

Get the Barkie Golok, you will love it. Used mine yesterday to trim a hedge out the back and for some more garden work. Very versitile for a large blade.

NO, I'm not giving them out free to anyone who gets a Golok! Sheesh! (You're welcome again! Your old untempered one has a prominent place in my collection! :D )

No Goloks in A2 - ever! Very sad! Current ones are in 1095, first run in some other carbon steel.

Great for clearing brush and trimming hedges, darn good chopper for it's weight and size (out chops some larger blades popular on forums like this!), and batons amazingly well!

Light and quick in the hand, I've used it for hours with no gloves and not the slightest blister or red spot. If I'm hiking, it's strapped to the side of my pack or on the baldric.

Here in SoCal it gets used regularly in yard work, in chaparral, and up in the mountains.

Great blade - I can't recommend it highly enough! The BRKT Golok is the "hatchet" of my "Nessmuk Trio"!
