Thinking about getting a knife from SilverStag. Would the elk antler handle smell bad?

Antler (horn does too) smells when you cut it, and when it's it's fresh. Once it's prepped and used on a knife there'll be no smell. If it smells, the makers aren't prepping it well, which could be possible on very cheap knives.

Silver Stag has been making knives for years. If they ever had a problem with smelly handles, it was remedied LONG ago! As was mentioned, stag really only smells when it's being worked, it doesn't like the friction of machine tools, and it will let you know it! But, once it seasons properly, you'll not have a problem.

I am sorry that you had to deal with rudeness about your question. No, antler does not smell bad. It only smells as it is being cut, but unless you bandsaw your knife handle in half you won't have to worry about that.

Interesting, my pet elk has a Buck knife and he complains the G10 smells.

I'll show myself out ....
