Thinking about getting DMT Diafold Magna-Guide....

Hey everyone,

I'm looking at the DMT Magna-Guide and was wondering what you all thought about it. I can't decide which hones to get. I'm thinking of starting with just the clamp and one Diafold hone. Which would be the best to get? I'm thinking about just picking up the one hone kit that comes with the clamp and the Fine-Extra Fine Diafold hone. I want to get the other hones (Extra Coarse to Extra Extra Fine eventually), but I don't have the money for them now. I thought I'd ask the experts before picking anything up.

Or should I look at some other options?

I have one, its a great tool and I like the fact I can use it in more ways than one. I would suggest getting 3 dia-folds so you can have all the grits to work with, that way you don't have the problem of not being coarse enough to remove enough metal or not being fine enough to get it to the sharpness you like. If you get the standard kit with the fine/xfine also get the x-coarse/coarse and x-fine/xx-fine, probably one of the best investments in sharpening you can make

+1 for what he said. Excellent investment, performs much better than many of the other similar models but lasts and lasts like most DMT's. The guide can also be used to sharpen off of a standard bench stone and serves as a great tool to learn free-handed sharpening skills. Great choice! :D

Cool, I think I'm gonna pick one up then. I like the option of using the Diafolds with out the clamp. Give a wide range of uses. Thanks for the help.
