I got invited to join Caravan again for the week of Thanksgiving to build homes in Mexico. Last year I took my son and it was a fantastic experience. Only one big issue concerns me that is fund raising the funds. Last year when my son and I did this we paid for our own airfare and raised money to build two homes one for each of us. We sold a knife on this forum and some of you corks donated very generously and we hit up all of our family and friends and raised the cash. Thinking that it was going to be a one shot deal. Now we are invited again and I am a little worried that we are not going to be able to raise the cash...I am reluctant to go back to the same people I hit up before..but I dont know that many people..being a Devils trailboss, peg legged, crusty sum biatch that I am...most people hate me..:D

But then there is a need...I dunno what to do...

advice??? and please this is not a hit up for money so dont say you will contribute because its against the rules..and...Im not sure if we are going..

If there's a need, there's a need. If you are able and want to, you should go. I would imagine that the fund raising will take care of itself with a little work. Even those that gave before... well hell, it isn't like you are wanting money to spend on hookers and goats, you are helping accomplish something. If I were in your shoes, and felt strongly about it, I'd go for it and explain it to those contributing funds the same way you explained it here, but maybe without calling them corks.
There aren't enough good works being done in the world IMO, and there aren't enough good times to spend with our children.

Strangely enough, I am facing the same problem about raising funds to help take a group of children to New York on an education tour. I did it last year (trip to Washington DC) and didn't think I'd be needing money again... I am going to take my own advice, though, and do it. Those that help will understand.

I am sure that you WILL be able to raise the funds!! It is a GREAT cause! I am sure if you do the footwork, the rest will fall in line, and you WILL be able to raise the money to do this!! If I had any $$$, I would help! I am unemployed due to my headache issue.

I've done the exact same thing in Juarez Mexico. It was a great experience, and all the fundraising was worth it. Like jthomas said, if the cause is good, folks will be willing to contribute again. You could always guilt them into it. With your way with words, I'm sure that wouldn't be much of a problem. Or, better yet, have your son do the talking. No one can turn down a sincere plea from a youth.

Creativity in fund-raising events goes a long way. Good luck,

Daniel

Ren - your work is commendable. A question though, can you not find anyone here in the United States in need? I am not disrespecting you so please don't take it that way, I just believe that charity begins at home.

It's closer to fly to Calif, AZ, NM or Texas. Lot's of them need homes there....

I do wish you luck, you are doing a good thing.

Gene

Good luck in your efforts to make a difference, Ren. As to the financial aspects, buy about 25 less Kreins between now and Thanksgiving and you should have enough $$$. ;)
