Thinking about moving to Whiting Indiana anyone live there?

O.k. not usually something I would ask here but a opportunity has come up for me to rent a house in Whiting. I have for most of my life rented apartments mostly in Chicago or north of. We would have the whole house to ourselves a yard and a garage never had either really. My commute to work would be pretty much the same as it is now and it would be only a 1/2 hour from where I live now. Never lived in Indiana not that I've never been there but was wondering if any of you folks live there or near? Any insight would be greatly appreciated I only have until March 1st to decide so any help would be great.

I was born not far from there in Michigan City, and spent my youngest years in Three Oaks, Michigan.
For the record, wild horses couldn't drag me back. But... the beautiful old homes and traditional American architecture are very appealing. This photo is supposedly of Whiting. If I had to return to the Chicago area, I'd want to live in a neighborhood like this.
