Thinking about ordering my first scrapyard

So I was thinking about ordering a scrapyard 511, this would be my first bussekin. I like the overall design of the knife, and the price point. I already have a becker bk2, and a bk10 on the way and am wondering if the 511 would be too similar. I have never actualy seen one in person so I may be way off. The 711 looks awesome too but I shouldn't really spend that much right now. I'm interested in any advice you have to give, and any coparisons and pics. I would love to see one side by side with a bk2. My other question is if I order from the website will it just ship out, or am I going to be waiting for a long time(I'm not a patient man). Any other ideas of something similar in the same price range, for a general purpose camp/outdoors knife? Thanks for all the info, and understanding(I'm new to this neck of the woods) :D

I would suggest that you go ahead and order a 7-11; it is a GREAT knife and feels better in the hand than any of the Becker knives that I own.;)

How big are your hands? The 511 has an oddly small handle. I am 5'11" tall and 175# w proportional hands and the handle seemed a tad on the small side, i wouldnt think anyone bigger than me would be comfortable with the handle. 711 on the other hand... Yowza that is a homerun! Cant go wrong there!

Plus it comes in any color you want!!!!!

As long its black.

While you're placing your order go ahead and join the discussion forum. We have a very friendly community over there full of plenty of people to help talk you into your next Bussekin purchase.

Solid advice on the handles. Or get one of each so you have a 711 for him, 511 for her. ;)

I like my 511 and depending on what you want to do the slimmer over all profile may be better suited ?

I am not a big guy, 5'11 and 190lbs, with average sized hands. I would love to get th 711, but I shouldn't even be getting the 511(not that it will stop me). I am trying to be slightly responsible(kinda). Is there anything with the handle of the 711 and blade closer to the 511? And how are the handles, I read a bit of the specs on their website. But are they soft, sticky, firm? Its hard to tell from the specs, could you compare it to something else? Oh yeah, pics next to a becker would be awesome, thanks again guys :)

.....someone beat that man with a wet lettuce leaf for even suggesting "responsibility" when it comes to knife purchases.....I am THE POSTER BOY for lack of any such responsibility.... ;)

I have a "couple" of 511s and a 711 as well as normal manly man sized hands... ;) :D The 511 strikes you as small the first time you pick it up BUT I have found with use it seems to become more natural in hand. It is NOT a chopper or hacking blade (size wise) and I find the proportions are all about right. Other differ and that is the nature of the beast.

I have one of mine out in the rain yesterday harvesting from my chilli crop in the rain... :D

Yeah, but Dave, you like those little baby hacks too. :p You guys should see him practice in the air with one of those, it's a treat. ;)

Seriously, the handle size may not be quite as bad as I made it out to sound, I just prefer the mudder grips over the smaller basic style grips, so I am a bit biased. You could watch for a scrapper 5, war dog, or rodent solution to come up on the exchange, but the factory direct pricing on the 511/711 is more likely to be a much better deal.

What does res-c feel like? Ever touch a semi truck tire on the smooth part of the tread where it meets the road? Res-c is very similar to that with a slight texture (no rock divots) yet it doesn't quite feel like rubber but close. It is not sticky or super soft or spongy like a car tire, but gives a firm grippy feeling with just a teeny bit of give. It's tough stuff that doesn't really wear out, and is the best shock absorbing handle material I have ever used.

Sorry, can't help ya on the becker pics.

My BK 10 and BK 9 Combat Bowie have not arrived yet, but here are a couple pics of some of the Bussekin side by side. I tried to place the base of the blades along the same plane for an idea of handle and blade differences. Hope it helps.

Thanks guys, and the semi truck tire is exactly what I had pictured in my head :) I do think I will go with the 511 since the 711 might be a bit bigger than I need right now(and more expensive). I appreciate all the input.

I have a stripped 511 on its way to me, once it arrives I will get a pic of it next to my BK10.. I would say go with the 711.. The BK10 will fill the 5" role well and there are those here calling the 711 the resurrected camp tramp which is a grail camp knife to many (and the cost difference isn't that significant to warrant worrying about it unless you don't have it)... Not sure about the handles yet but I have a Basic10 to compare the 511 handle to.. Will post my thoughts with the pics...

As soon as I got home, I started looking through all my stuff to see what I could sell to buy one of these :D This is the first time I decided to sell a knife to buy another one, and I have enough now to not feel guilty :D

Sell whatever you have to and buy a RatManDu from Eric while you can still get them at factory pricing. Best $138.95 you will ever spend on a knife.

That is all.

What are the specs, I don't see it on their site. I do kinda like that on too, thanks for making this harder for me to decide :p

I don't know if its too late, but I'd like to chime in on the handle advice, the 711 (to me) definitely has a more comfortable handle than the 511. I have average sized hands.

Like the rest of the people here I say get the 711, its a great knife at a great price. And unlike knives you already have, if you don't like it, you can sell it for what you paid for it.

Yeah the handle looks great, but I really like the 511. It looks like it would fit my needs more.
