Thinking about Paramilitary 2's

It seems the regular Para 2 is rather elusive these days too. I did manage to get one in the first production round and it's close to a Holy Grail kind of knife. I'm really infatuated with this knife.

I went to the Internet site I mostly use when buying new knives and they have the following Para 2's listed.

1. SP81CFP2 - S30V & regular Spyderco G10...$108.95; Out of Stock
2. SP81GGY20CP2 - CTS20P & gray G10...$139.95; Pre-Order Only
3. SP81CFP2 - S90V & carbon fiber...$185.95; Pre-Order Only

I have to admit being intrigued with the Carpenter steel version simply because I've never used it and think I'd like to try it. Same for the S90V, but when I look at the price differentials between these three versions; and I find myself wondering if either is that much (if at all) better than the S30V version?

Thoughts from the steel obsessed knifenuts as this seems to be a steel question?

Interesting question, especially considering that CTS20P is new. CTS20P is Carpenter's version of S90V and if it is up to the task, then it is going to be great. The CTS-XHP Manix 2 is outstanding. Given the price difference of the three Para 2s you listed, I think the CTS20P bridges the gap nicely.

If it performs as expected, then it would be, IMO, easy to justify the additional price over the S30V version. Further, strictly focused on steel and performance, the CTS20P should be close or equal to the S90V and be the value leader.

Yep, I've been doing some thinking on that one also, and cancelled my CF S90V order last week.

It was over $190 with shipping, and I can get an S30V shipped for about $99 when they get them back in stock.
If I knew the Grey G10 was going to be kinda dark I would order a carpenter steel model. But I'm afraid it may be a light grey, and show dirt very easy.

Showing dirt never bothered me, so that's not a problem. Are they worth the extra money? That depends on how you use your knives. I cut and scrape on a lot of hard and abrasive material, so for me S90V is woth the premium. For the average user, it is a complete waste of money.

I have both the CTS-20P and S90V vers on preorder and will be test cutting with both as I get them so we will see how they stack up against each other and the other steels that I have already tested.

What will be really interesting is to see how they compare to each other.

You could always sell it on the secondary if you don't like the color. Being a sprint run, it shouldn't be too difficult to do so.

You're right, I may try to get on the list. I like grey anyway, and would like about any shade really.
I also didn't realize CTS-20P was expected to perform as well as S90V.
