Thinking about picking up a Survive! Please help!

I'm thinking about the bushcrafter since that's the only one in the size range I want and is available for preorder. I'd really love a 4.1 or 4.7 though. Question...how quickly do they typically sell out after preorder is fulfilled? Also, are there any photos or threads with a bushcrafter prototype? Thanks in advance!!!
 
First of all, there are far more knowledgeable veterans on this thread to give you a more informative response. That said, I clean up the aisles in here so if you are waiting for some immediate response, I'm probably the janitor you didn't want to hear from :D

The GSO 4.5 BC is a new model in the Survive! Knives family so apart from the presented artist's rendering and the info on their site, there is no other publicly available review on this model. Once the preorder window closes for the model which you are seeking out, you will NOT be able to place an order for the said model. The only other chances which you will be getting are as follows:

A- If Survive! offers the said knife during their Mondays' Sales and most probably the units offered will be what they call Factory 2nds AKA "Ugly Bettys" as they refer to their 2nds.

B- finding one on the secondary market, including on here or on eBay.

To familiarize yourself with the slangs and acronyms used, please thoroughly read THIS.

Survive! currently does NOT guarantee any definite fulfillment target for any of their models, whether in production or in the preorder phase. This is a VERY IMPORTANT point for your to consider and base your decision upon.

Full disclosure, I already have one on preorder and most likely will add one more on the last day of the preorder's last call!
 
Don't hesitate to pick up a factory 2nd. There are a few threads around - "Try to find why it's a second". I have one and simply cannot find a defect in spite of lots of looking. Others have the same experience. It's generally chalked up to a degree of OCD quality control from Guy that just isn't found elsewhere. Buy with confidence.
 
Yup, put one on order and forget about it... it could be months and months (dare I say years) before you receive one in hand. If you have the cash to set aside, I promise you will be happy in the end. Worst case scenario is that you put the money down, wait a number of months and receive the knife and don't like it. You could sell it for the same price (or more) in a matter of minutes. I'd be willing to bet, though, that you would receive the knife and want to buy another one.

As others have said, factory 2nds are as good as non-blemish blades as far as usability. You might be able to find a scratch in the finish but I doubt you would. These knives are hard to get for a very specific reason... they are the real deal (because Guy is that OCD kind of dude).
 
For sure! Keep eyes out for the factory seconds. I think the 4.1 should be the next knife in your size range. Preorders are closed so you are going to have to hawk the exchange or the Monday sales for a second
 
I would suggest you buy one on mondays/secondhand if you want a knife in 2016. I ordered the 6, and am a little salty I didnt read a little more into the fulfillment dates and will have to buy a second knife if I want to use it anytime soon.

With that said, the free customization bonuses are pretty sweet if you have the cash and can wait. The upfront pay is kind of tough for me; kind of wish it were more like Busse's model, but I'm sure I'll feel differently once I can actual8ly buy one ::glares at Casino:: 😅

Like Standard has said, there is really not a set time per se or even a set Monday. You can check both their website (the same page I linked up in an earlier response) and also check on this subforum in the thread titled "Survive! Heads Up". The other thing to note is that there will not be GSO 4.5 BC on the Mondays Sale anytime soon. We may very well be looking at mid 2017 or later on for those. Not to cause a friction with this statement, but trying to keep things in perspective :)

To the OP; I was in a similar situation as you until I finally pulled the trigger on a gso. I have seen fallen into the deepend.

I love the 4.1 and 4.7. They are wonderfully made and the ergos are just right for me.

If you're on the fence anyways, don't hesitate if you see one. Wait too long and I'll jump on it (unless CS's doll works)! ;)
