Im about to jump in the Becker waters after seeing my friends BK 2 he just got. That thing is a tank of a knife and at a heck of a good price. I started looking at the Becker line after checking out my friends BK 2 and have discovered the one I want is no longer being made:eek: I am trying to find a BK 6 but I am about to settle on a BK 9. Is Becker goin to bring back the BK 6 any time soon or at all?

Maybe.................that's all I'm sayin'.

The Bk6 is a good blade, I have one, and I love it. Sorry, not what you were wanting to hear. Currently the Patrol Machete is not being made. Perhaps it will emerge in the future.

The BK9 is a kickazz blade, I love mine, and find myself using it a little more that the Patrol Machete. Its a little easier to wield, and not as obtrusive on the hip for carry.

The BK2 is my favorite of all. It would seem that you liked your friends, get one with some micarta grips and show him up. :D

There will be a Patrol Machete Passaround in the near future for the Beckerheads, feel free to hang out and join up, if you wish.

there are of course alternatives as well on the market, if you can't wait, and must be equipped now.

the Fiskar's brush hook actually gets more use than my Patrol Machete, I must say, mostly due to scarcity of the latter, and my desire to have ONE in mint condition :) < $25 :)

there also too is the ESEE Junglass. not too shabby extra ruggged survival tool. > $25 :)

welcome, come on in, the waters fine......

either way you're gonna love the quality/price point Becker offers..

the 9 is fine, the 7 is heaven and the 2 is you.....!!!!!!

(yeah I know I shouldn't drink so much coffee);)

I have looked at the Junglass and might end up going that way. I am going to keep my eyes open for a BK 6 as well. You can never have too many;) Right?

I think the esteemed Bladite was referring to the Lite Machete. The Junglas is a different beast altogether. Its a 10" knife and bad, bad, bad to the porcine bone:D. I wants one, but with my BK9, I don't need it RIGHT NOW, so it goes down to the bottom of the buying list.

no no, the Junglas. bigger than the BK9 Combat Bowie by some, but not a full on machete either - perhaps a little cumbersome? useful in real jungle or weeds or blackberries :)

also, there's Condor Knives... they make some fine stuff. i wants some of that as well. especially their khukri and parang like thing.

Ah, I see. I was still working under the pretense he was wanting a machete, not BFK. Though the Junglas lists as a machete, I call HA! to that.

I like the Condor Golok alot, 1/4" thick, with a full distal taper, it chops like a beast, and is quick in the hand. Joe had me working one last weekend.

I like th Bk9 better than the Junglas, the Junglas handle is to flat for me, I like me some swell. Now, if we could get the BK handle on the Junglas, now we are talking seriouse business.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, I may have a new project to pester Ethan, Jeff, and Mike about now. Hmmmmmmmmmm, call it the Bunglas? Jecker? Or just BEAST!!!!

Man, that would rock.

How about bring back the Brute? I know, Ethan says never again will we see the Brute. I can dream can't I ?

The Junglas is a dream to handle - fits my hand better than the stock grivory on the Beckers. That said, it's hard to beat a Becker for value - and a BK9 with aftermarket micarta still costs less than the Junglas)
If you want something BK6 sized to tide you over until you can find one, check out the Condor Golok (14" blade) or Parang (17" blade) 1/4" thick in the hand, distal taper so not too heavy, and fast. The Golok is better at cutting grass than the parang, but the parang is a beast at hacking. (I cut down a 6" diameter honey locust with one - and no edge rolling)

I had a Brute - didn't like it.
Now I have a TacTool - I like it.
If I didn't have a Junglas, the BK9 would be part of my kit. (although a 12" BK9 or 14" Magnum Camp would be the ultimate zombie slayer)
oh, yeah - and Ethan has been quotes saying the BK9 is a more efficient chopper.

Although I haven't used either, I will have to agree.. That's what I like most about Becker's are the handles.. the 'ball' that you've referred to it as, simply rocks!! makes it a whole other knife when chopping.. So I would have to say the BK9 would be very comparable to the Junglas if not better just because of the handles versatility.. Someday maybe I can compare them both, hand in hand chopability..

Yeah, that is something I was trying to get done in the ESEE forums. I think the Junglas would be a better chopper, but I have held them, and I would say that the BK9 is lighter and better suited to more mundain tasks. That said, I do want a Junglas, so if anyone is interested in getting me a Christmas present, I'll take a Junglas, no sheath needed.:D:thumbup:

If ya'll get me a Junglas for Christmas, I'll be sure and do a GOOD write up on the 2 compared. Just sayin'.

well, Moose - if you do a BK9 passaround, I could post that comparison for ya.
just sayin'... :D

Proabably be Spring before that big dude makes a passaround. We have to finish with the BK05, and then the Patrol Machete. BK9 might be the next, might be the BK2. You never know.

i have both the bk-9 and the junglas and i've done a back to back chopping test with them. i believe i posted pics and my opinion on them here and on the esee forum awhile back.

in short, for me i like the junglas better. the extra inch and longer handle makes a significant difference in the chopping ability since i can move my hand further back causing the balance to move further to the tip. the bk-9 feels like a large knife whereas the junglas feels like a small machete - it feels very nimble in the hand.

what surprised me though is how much better a machete chops! if i know i'm going to be doing a lot of chopping i'll take a $15 machete anyday over a bk-9 or junglas. a machete just bites much, much deeper. i'd say it's 30% more efficient.

as for the grivory vs. micarta i find grivory to be fine grip-wise. then again when i chop i use a lanyard and have a semi-relaxed grip to minimize transferring the force from the impact to my hand. people who use a machete on a regular basis will know what i'm talking about. you kinda just grip it using your thumb and index finger while the rest of the fingers are sorta barely gripping it so the handle pivots around your hand almost freely. i grip a chopper a tad tighter than a machete since it's a heavier blade in order to maintain control but the technique is the same.
