Thinking about putting some KaBar micarta scales on my Camillus BK-5

I'm assuming they are compatible, yes?

And I've noticed that the ones ya'll have on yours are a sort of brownish color, which I dig. The ones I see listed at Tomars appear green in the pics. Is that an error in the photo? I have to ask because I don't think I'd like lime green scales and I want my BK-5 to match my BK-11 with its brown scales.

I've had my BK-5 for over a decade. It's still my favorite Becker and probably my favorite knife of any I've ever owned. It's high time I took it to the next level.:D

The reason why the Tomars grips looks Yellowish is due tothe lighting/color correction of the pic itself more the the actual color.

The Kabar grips are made from natural canvas Micarta. The stuff does vary from a Lighter tan to a medium brown from batch to batch but even the lighter colored ones darken with use. Not only from UV light but also oils and sweat which are absorbed on the surface.

They will look fine once you use them a bit.

I personally like the wood better on the 5, but I admit the micarta looks pretty nice on them too. I just love the feel of natural wood over the feel of the factory micarta.

But I could be swayed to try the micarta on the 5 if I ever bought another one LOL

My favorite material to use for handle scales when I make handles for Green River blades is walnut Dymondwood. It looks natural and is fairly easy to work, and I don't need to stain it, seal it, or stabilize it.

I made some extra cash this week hauling some scrap so I decided I could splurge on some KaBar micarta for my BK-11, so why not add some of that stuff for my favorite Becker too?

Sounds like a plan, if u dont like them for some reason Im sure u could recoup the purchase price, or most of it.

Dymondwood? Off to Google!

Dymondwood is also sometimes called Pakkawood. It's a laminated material similar to micarta but instead of resin and cloth layers, it's resin and thin wood veneer layers.

Well I got 'em ordered. Micarta handles for the BK-11 and my good ol' BK-5. I'll probably end up upgrading the rest of my Becker arsenal if I like it, which I probably will.

Yes. I have the micarta scales on my Camillus BK-5 and they are great. Actually I have them on all my Beckers (2/5/7/9) except the Tactool. They are a must have upgrade in my opinion. They arrive a light tan but darken very quickly from my experience.

Got my micarta today:D

Really digging it on my BK-5. It's made it perfect. My BK-7 gets 'em next

BUT the BK-11 micarta scale set was goofed. I got two sets of right-hand scales instead of a right and a left.

Can you post pics?

Sure would like to see what your BK5 looks like with it's new Micarty Pants.;)

As to the double right side BK11 scales, that IS weird considering how easy it is to tell the right and left ones apart. If they were Bk14 scales I could see it sionce they are neerly identical on both sides...

Tomars... what can I say? What a class act they are.

I just checked my email and got a shipping notification informing me they have my new set of BK-11 scales on their way to me in the mail.

The other ones I had, we put them in the mail to return to Tomars on Friday afternoon. I know there's no doggone way they got from Ohio to New York overnight like that. Not in the standard mail.

This means they shipped out my replacement without even getting my returned merchandise. That's RARE these days.

I'm liking the micarta on the BK-5 more and more. I think it's going to need to be on ALL my Beckers now.
