I really love the large Sebenza. It is a work horse. But for edc purposes and weight reduction I'm thinking about making the switch to a small. Just having a hard time making up my mind about it.

I think most of us have to try both to see what's gonna work. I suggest grabbing a small Insingo from the exchange (I think the blade offers the most functionality in the smalls.) You won't stand to loose much on resell if you prefer your large. The KA CF version of the large might also be an option since it's about the same weight as a small.

I've had several smalls and always let them go because of the in hand feel. After being out and about all day yesterday at the soccer tournament I'm just wondering if I shouldn't EDC a small since I carry it 90% of the time and use it 10%.

Just thinking out loud, I guess.

I wouldn't sell the large(at least not at 1st). The best in hand feel that I have found is the small micarta inlay(in smalls). I think that would give you the best chance of success.

The problem is, you haven't given the smalls a fair chance to prove its worth.
Get a small, make yourself carry it long enough to get used to it and it will become the perfect size.
It's like fishing, in order to learn how to have confidence in one lure, that's the only one you take on a fishing trip.
Since I'm in a different work environment, I prefer the large. If I'm doing something else, the small is in my pocket.

That's a fair assessment.

What about an Inkosi instead?

I have a fear of those little finger grooves not fitting my large hands.

Read the Inkosi threads. There are some guys here with big hands, and love their Inkosi's. DO check out the threads, it might help you.

I have owned a few plain small 21's and much prefer the Inkosi. I like the smaller size and the grooves add a bit more surface area to hold on too. This knife feels much more secure in my hand than the 21 ever did.

I jumped on a nicely used one for well under $300 here on the exchange knowing that I would be able to recover my costs. I like it a lot more than I thought I would.

I wear a size medium mechanix gloves btw.

Looks great. I can barely fit into XL size gloves. lol

Read Gizler00's thread on the Inkosi, I believe he has huge hands too, and he loves his Inkosi. His thread is on page 2.

+1 on the small Insingo. I prefer the Large myself, and am getting rid of my small Insingo, but honestly if I were to ever get another small it would be the Insingo. I second that it cuts like a large knife. It's definitely bigger than its britches suggest!

If you decide not go with a small you may want to consider picking up a carbon scaled Large21, big weight reduction, it weighs less than 5/8 of an ounce more than an Inkosi :)

My personal favorite CRK is the small carbon fiber Sebenza, so of course I would recommend that knife:) The small micarta is also a terrific knife that gets regular use. In my experience, the small is easier to carry because it is shorter and of course lighter. The issue of weight and length is compounded in dress clothes and athletic shorts!
Here are my micarta and carbon fiber smalls:

I say give one a try, you can always sell it if it doesn't work out.

I prefer the small to the large for daily carry, it feels more practical, until the Inkosi came out which now, I carry 90% of the time

From experience (I myself go back and forth on large or small) I'd suggest snagging a small and solely carrying that for a couple of weeks. You'll grow accustomed to it's size(my hands are large aswell).

If it's a possibility have both large and small, then carry the knife that suits your day. Ofcourse that's the ideal.

Or you can go full on fancy and start sporting a mnandi. Great for social situations, small, sleek and lightweight. Then carry your large when needed:thumbup:

Either way CRK's seem to be fast sellers and hold their value, so if you snag a small, try it for awhile, and if you decide it's not for you, you can always turn around and resell and pick up a large again (or an umnumzaan:D)

I currently carry a small seb. 21 plain Jane no inlay and love it. Plenty of grip and blade size is generous for mosteoporosis everyday cutting needs. Light, small footprint and rides in pants/shorts very well. If you want larger down the road get an umnumzaan or fixed blade. Just how I feel about it... Good luck!

OP didn't you just sell your small insingo like a few days ago?

I have bought and sold a few smalls as well, but I recently got a small insingo micarta and love it so far! The inlays do make a difference. Have you tried a small inlaid 21?
