Well, I ordered a MFS and WP2 now I'm thinking about one more. I am the world's worst about buying a knife and just keeping it for my collection. I've got a few thousand dollars tied up in knives that I just look at from time to time. What can I say, I love to collect nice knives.
I want a great, tough user knife. One that will serve as a utility knife plus self defense knife if needed. I'm thiking about biting the bullet and purchasing a Strider BT tiger striped. I really want a SEAL 2000, but it doesn't look too hopeful.
What do you guys think about the BT? I'm new to Strider knives and I am also wondering how well the tiger stripe coating holds up over time. I'm not quite sure how the tiger striping is put on the blade. Does it seem to last? Also, how easy is it to sharpen the BT? Will the Lansky system work?

Thanks for the input!

The tiger stripes are not applied, there are the carbon residue left over after heat treating and then they sandblast the stripes where they want them. If you want a SEAL2000 then order a BT with tiger stripes, green cord and spine serrations and you have your seal with out the designation on the blade. i have both the BT and MT in this config and both are great. The Bt is a better defensive blade, the MT utilitarian. Just go for the gusto and order a SEAL2001 from TAD !

Nothing against the BT. I don't have one, but have you considered a WB? great utility blade. But I gotta say, a user and self defense knife is the one that you are going to have on you. If you really think that you are going to keep the BT on you all the time go for it. But in reading your post it most likely will end up in your "collection"

Everyday user and SD just in case, I would go with and AR or GB. If you want a fixed blade I would suggest one of the smaller Striders (AD, SA, DB or HT - It's already got the serrations!). If you want more of an SD knife, the EB's or the Airwave or TAD TKa would be cool.

Thanks for the info. How long does it typically take to get a special order BT that is tiger striped with spine serrations?
The tiger striped BT seems easy enough to find for $325, but what about one with spine serrations?

How much would a BT with serrations cost? Are there any places that still the SEAL 2000?

The BT-SS-TS-G AKA SEAL2000 runs $ 375, the spine serrations ads 50 bucks to the cost. THe SEAL2000's were a run for the Japanese market and not many here in the US. THE SEAL2001 is available in the US but is 10% overall larger than the BT. Basically it is a BT-L with a more aggressive tip grind. The SEAL2001 runs $ 700.
