thinking about turning my manix s110v into a fixed blade knife

ok so i bought a manix 2 in 110v a while back because i wanted to have a knife in s110v. I do like the steel but i dont carry the knife very often since its not a flipper. I find myself using my zt 0801, zt 0770CFM390 and my kershaw camber way more. I just like the design and function of those knives more than the manix.

I have a benchmade fixed blade hunter in s30v that i carry at work and ive been wanting to get another fixed blade since that is my only good fixed blade i own.
so i got the idea of possibly trying to use the blade from my manix to make it into a fixed blade. I knowit wont be as good as a knife that is made as a fixed blade and ones that have a full tang. I treat my knives really well and dont abuse them so i think i would be able to make the blade handle interface strong enough that it will hold up fine for what im using it for.

If i do go through with it i will probably make the handle out of micarta but im also considering g10

has anyone here every converted a folder into a fixed blade?

i would love to hear some ideas on how i should go about this.

i know a lot of people will say just sell the manix and buy an actual fixed blade, which probably isnt a bad idea but i just think the blade shape and size as well as material would make an awesome knife. plus i will enjoy making it and having a knife that i "made" myself. I still might go that route, i have been thinking about a spyderco mule in s110v, but for some reason the idea of turning the manix into a fixed blade is more appealing to me, not sure why

i dont know if it would work or not but i have a wire feed welder and was thinking that i could weld on a tang as long as i kept the blade of the knife cool so not to mess up the heat treat, like maybe keeping it submerged in water while i weld the tang on.

any ideas would be greatly appreciated

If I really wanted to do what you're talking about (I wouldn't), I would just completely fill the handle including the locking mechanism with JB Weld, let it dry, then sand off the excess. It won't ever close again.

I really would just sell it and buy a nice fixed blade. I don't think you'll EVER get the results you want out of that Manix. Just my $.02.

Agree.

Get the Mule.

You don't have a lot of extra steel to weld a tang onto without ruining the heat treat.

+1

Sell the s110v and keep the funds in your PayPal and look for a s110v mule, or cru wear mule.

The Only other option I can think of is to buy some stainless stock at the thickness of the s110v blade and go to town with some drills and files and make it so the s110v will sit into a notch that matches the pivot end of the blade with zero play (don't forget to swiss cheese the rest of the slab to save Some weight)
Epoxy that in between two thin (.075") stainless plates and then epoxy that to some micarta slabs and shape to fit your hand.

The bad things are that it will be Very handle heavy, there will be absolutely zero warranty, any work needed will be on your hands, and if anything breaks your beat...

With having other knives you like to carry, will you want to carry one that doesn't work as well while feeling cobbled together? You know what a quality knife feels like, and this won't likely feel like that.
Save yourself the trouble, buy the mule and make the scales yourself.

Sell it and but the mule, as mentioned.
But. If you really like the knife, just not the lack of a flipper, and are ok carrying a sheath knife why nlt remove the pocket clip and bend up some kydex to just carry it opened on your belt? Makes it your own, doesnt ruin the knife, solves the lack of flipper.

Or he could always chop a wave into it. Wave trumps flipper for quick opening.

Wu, I agree, sparks are cool, plus knife mods rule. If you make it YOURS, you'll never be dissatisfied.

This is the best option IMHO.

I have my next two knives to wave planned; gotta get workin' on em...;)
