Thinking about TWO Graham Knives - lend me a hand!

Well, I have been searching for that elusive "perfect fixed blade" and I am not claiming that I have found it, but I sure do like the Graham series of EDC knives that they have.

I have some birthday money BURNING a hole in my pocket and I am thinking of getting TWO Graham Knives - to match - for myself. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! :D

I like the Razel, and I also like the Wharncliffe, the Jackyl, the Tanto and the Drop point...I know - too many likes! What TWO would you ordered if you HAD to order 2 knives from them. Their primary uses will be an EDC for my Maxpedition FatBoy and then also another knife to keep handy (not nescessarily EDC) for multiple chores. Self defense, duty, "sheeple friendly" would be nice.

Also, what handle material would you chose? I like the black linen micarta, but I am unsure of how the costs will differ on the different handles. Thanks for your help and please, don't come back and say that you would buy a "fill-in-the-blank" knife instead. I really like these makers and have read NOTHING but rave reviews of their quality, fit and finish and also their service. I know that 2 at once is different, but I REALLY like things to match - alittle OCD about things like that - so - this handles that issue.

David

BTW- you have until the 29th to PayPal me your birthday present!

I like the subdued look of the new micarta handles, but were I buying (wish I was) I would get the Razel in either the Green Canvas Micarta, or the bright blue G-10:

It's beautiful, and I tend to think that bright colors like that make a knife more sheeple-friendly. Also, it looks enough like a non-knife tool that it doesn't have that "scary knife look". The Wharncliffe they have in blue G10 is also quite the looker. When I am rolling in money and looking for a good high-quality rope knife, that might just be close enough to a sheepfoot to work.

Anyone know if they make those nifty leather pocket sheaths for other knives?

Important decisions like this should be made with your heart, not your head. Just pick the ones that speak to you.

But since you asked...

The first knife should be a tanto. Personally, I have a Graham tanto because I prefer the tanto points. To me, it looks elegant and I got to hold it at the Blade Show before I bought it, so I knew it felt right in my hand.

I have a black handle with red liners, again because I like the way it looks.

The second knife should be a Razel because looks like a really useful blade shape for everyday use. I listened to one of the Graham brothers explain it to another customer, but I just prefer the looks of the tanto, I've carried one for years, and I was only buying one knife. I'd consider the Razel if I were buying a second one for myself or as a gift for someone.

David: In my humble opinion, you are making a wise choice regardless of the models you ultimately choose. Jon and Josh Graham craft beautiful knives AND sheaths at a fair price. I have two, a pocket Razel and a pocket drop point, both with green linen micarta handles, white liners, mosaic pins, and polished finishes. Both have proven to be extremely practical and durable. And (perhaps because of their relatively small size and beautiful finish) I have yet to receive a stupid 'why are you carrying that thing' comment. On the contrary, these knives draw a lot of compliments. And, oh man, the pocket sheaths (kydex or leather - I have both), talk about well done. Your knive is always right there. Anyway, have fun choosing, and don't worry about going wrong.

First of all, I do recommend the razel -- having gotten one myself, and liking it. Then I would say, the wharnecliff and tanto have the same straight edge, so go for something with a bellied edge for contrast, to handle jobs where you want the upsweep.

Could you please post a link to these.

Sorry to do this to you averageguy - you might end up spending some money.

Thanks everyone for your input...I have heard nothing but favorable things about them, I spoke to Josh this morning on the phone and he was very helpful in helping me make a decision. I KNOW that I am going to oder a Razel and if the deal that I am working on comes through, there is one available on a forum brand new that will match the color scheme that I want. Will let you know after I seal the deal...

Thanks again.

Since I own 15 or so of their knives I would like to put in my $.02.The Razal is awsome. Both of mine have Girraffe Bone handle. One being the first Razal ever made. The Prototype.I aso have tanto, spearpoint, droppoint and clippoint. The spearpoint is my EDC.The Jackyl is by far my favorite. If you want BIG,get a Camp Knife. As far as handle material,Black Linen Micarta is as tough as it gets.I abuse mine daily.

I ordered 2 of their knives before Blade. I ordered the Razel & the Jackyl, both with black & tan G-10 handles along with filework. But I believe anything you order from the Graham's will be nice.

You won't be unhappy with the Razel. Mine goes with me to work every day. Very comfortable, useful knife.

I have a Graham Wharncliffe on the way (black linen micarta with red liner adn mosaic pins) that I bought from a guy on these forums, and I am going to order a Razel to match and should have it within a few months. Will post pics of the matching couple when they are united. Thanks for the input guys. How many people have pics of their? The pics on the website (especially the older ones) I don't think do the knives their justice. They have some newer ones that are GREAT looking pics.
