Thinking long and hard about it

Thinking about dumping the production folders I have, and going just with my small and large micarta Sebs for EDC. Oh, I plan on keeping my slippies, but the Sebs will be my only modern designs. I just don't know if I can go through with it. I remember other people posting about their doing the same thing, couldn't believe it at the time.

I pretty much dumped most other knives but I have a few spydies kicking around. If you don't have to get rid of anything, then don't.

I definitely would not do it just for the concept of having only Chris Reeve knives, I would only get rid of my other knives if I needed the money, space, or 100% wanted to.

I know what you mean. I hadn't bought a knife in awhile. I have a modest collection of stout Spydercos, one Emerson, and a SNG... Thought I had spent all the money I ever needed to... and more than I could justify... until I held a Sebenza for the 1st time yesterday. I bought it just knowing it was the last... that is, until I learned it was old and collectable.

Now, I need a modern LS...

And a Spyderco Police in G10...

That will bring me to 10 stout folders.

More than I need but not too many I hope?

I'm reluctant to let any of them go. I've sold a couple guns in my life and wish I still had them.

I did. Sold maybe 5-6 production knives and own just my large regular. I do still have one ProTech, which I am trying to trade/sell. Just having the Seb makes me carry it more, and use it more. It has become "my knife." In fact, I finally broke down and started using it for yard work, which I was reluctant to do in the past. Now that I have committed to one knife, and have committed to actually using it, its like I have a new knife, even though I have had it for almost a year.

I dumped all my production folders, except the ones that were gifts. (I have 2 very special Spydies.) And my Salt 1, as I don't currently have custom (yet) to replace it for my beach knife.

I say go for it. I dumped productions a long time ago when I got into customs. I have since gotten rid of all my customs and I now happily live with just a small Sebenza.

It's crazy, I used to buy a new $300-500 knife every month or so, usually selling another one to pay for it. I barely even look at new knives anymore. I've had this small Sebenza in my pocket for about 9 months which is a lot longer then I've ever carried any other knife. I've just discovered that the small Sebenza is the perfect knife for me and all I really need. No point in having money tied up in others that I won't use so I got rid of them.

I can't give up my Ritter Grips or my 710, but I'm slowly but surely removing the productions hold over me. Looking at just Barkies, Striders and Chris Reeves right now, along with some local custom makers' wares. Who knows, I've seen lots of other people on BF and JD go through phases.

I dumped almost all other production knives and now only carry either a large classic seb, small bocote seb, and a 3" xm-18. I kept 2 Benchmades and 1 Spyderco for sentimental reasons, but I don't really carry them anymore. They just sit in a display case and I take them out and play with them every once and a while. Also, I used to buy a new knife every month and as soon as I got the new one I would be looking online for the next.

I've kept a couple of Emersons and I have a Benchmade Vex around somewhere but I cannot imagine carrying anything but a CRK anymore as an EDC

I sold everything for my small seb except a Military for outdoors, 710, and a mini persian. I'm as happy as can be.

I did that a few years back, nothing but CRK. Since then I've gathered a 100 or so other knives again. It might be time to clean house 1 more time.
