Hey guy's, I'm thinking of adding a new fixed blade to my ever expanding collection.

I'm looking at either the Ontario Knifes RD6, or the RD9. What say you ? Or are there others that you could recommend ?

Based off of your recommendations, I will add said knife to my collection tonight.

Either will be fine. I myself like a big knife so I would go with the RD9 but you need to see what your collection is laging and fix it.

May I also sugest the Winchester Bowie made of stainless steel and only $19.99.

The RD series are stout, well made knives, but their handle ergo's leave something to be desired. I have an RD9, but you'll want to spend some time on the belt sander to get the handle scales feeling better.
Big difference between the RD9 and RD6, 3 inches. The 9 would be a good chopper. The 6 is at that awkward size, too big to do good detail work, too small to make a good chopper.

I recommend the Becker line. BK9 for a great chopper, BK 15/16/17 for a good field knife.

I like Ontario but I have to admit that the Becker line is known for haveing both a tougher and stronger knife, at least tougher. Now that is my opinion only but its an opinion from reading many years of magazines and reviews.

You cant go wrong with the Ontario line but at the same time you can do a little better with Becker.

I do not know if it is still true but when it was ESEE's at Ontario line they were known a little as having brittle edges and that is something they fixed when they became their own line but I dont know if Ontario ever fixed the problem with thier line of ESEE type knives.

Anyway, I like the RD line and I like the BK line so just see where your collection lags and do that.

Becker (which I happen to like, BTW) is tougher than a RD? Where did that claim come from? Got anything to back that one up?

As far as the Ontario/ESEE (actually Ontario/RAT...there never was an ESEE line made by Ontario) issues, that has nothing to do with the Ontario Ranger knives...entirely different product.

That out of the way...I love Ontario Rangers for what they are...bomb proof tanks at a reasonable price. They can take some work if you want them to be more "subtle." But in their original state they are ideally suited for what Justin Gingrich of Ranger designed them for - beating, smashing, and chopping the bejeebus outta stuff.

The Becker line looks to be a great option. Let me ask this question though, I see that the Becker also carries the KA-BAR name. It this a Becker knife by KA-BAR, or vise versa ? I like the fact that it's USA made, as are 99.9 % of my collection.

I'm also trying to stay under the $100.00 range. Any thoughts on the Buck 620 Reaper ? I own several Buck folders, and I'm very pleased with the quality and value of them.

Thanks for the input thus far...it is greatly appreciated.

Working for a very popular knife retailer I can tell you that Esee outsells Becker, Ka-Bar, and Ontario every day of the week. The reasons are:
1. Quality. I have never had an Esee come back with any issues, or an Ontario for that matter. But PLENTY of Ka-Bar and Beckers with broken tips, chipped blades, etc.
2. Guarantee. Esee has a great warranty and will pretty much replace your knife, no questions asked, if you experience any issues.
3. Repeat Business. It has happened so many times I have stopped keeping track: someone comes in and buys an Izula (after looking at similar products from Ka-Bar, Ontario, and a few other companies) They take a chance on the knife based on our recommendations (we do not do commission sales, so all our sales are based on our own experience and customer feedback). They take that Izula out camping, beat the ever living crap out of it, fall in love with the knife and come back in the next week to buy another Izula because they love it so much!
4. Simplicity. Esee found a super simple design (Blade & Handles) and have perfected it.

I have several customers who are old survivalists, and they are used to buying $500 Bushcraft/survival knives, and they won't buy anything that they don't trust. These guys go through every kind of survival, Bushcraft and outdoor knife and nothing meets their standards. I have put Esee knives in their hands, and not only have they loved them, they have come back and bought more, and made them their EDC knives.

Hard results to argue with. And those results have repeated themselves on a daily and weekly basis.
