Thinking of adding an izula neck knife to my edc

Hey guys, I was looking around on BladeHQ for things to add to my edc roster when I saw an Izula neck knife which caught my eye. I do not have any experience with either ESEE or neck knives in general. I have most of my edc already pretty rounded. An Olympia RD160 Flashlight, a Spyderco Sage 1, A Baliyo (with fisher space pen insert), and A Fossil Wallet (rocking the pocket chain) make up my roundup. What are your guys' opinions?

Esee makes a quality knife. My wife got me an Izula for Christmas. It wasn't something I asked for, she picked it out by herself. I must say that I really like it. It is slim and light even in the sheath, and for those reasons I will keep it in my pocket. Can't even tell it's in there. I'm sure it would make a great neck knife. The sheath has lashing points that could easily be attached to a belt either horizontal or vertical. There is a belt clip available for it. There are scales available for it in G10 and micarta and they are inexpensive. I have heard that the coating on the blade won't let it slide through cardboard easily. The coating is on there to stay though, and won't come off. Mine is Damascus and beautiful. the more I carry it and use the more I like it. If you shop around, one of the forum sponsors has them much less expensive than anyone else.

They are great knives but I prefer to carry mine on my belt or in my pocket. Try running with a neck knife and you will soon find out why. Also, it takes two hands to put it back in the sheath, but on the belt only one hand. When I neck carry it is something much lighter and smaller.
Having said that, you will love that knife. Get the handle scales. They are worth the $10 you will pay for them.

The Izula is a nice little knife but in this style I definitely prefer the Becker D'Eskabar : longer blade, narrower, uncoated and D2. Only good things. And it accepts the Izula scales (with some filing of the central shim) when you get tired of the skeleton handle.

I'm going to side with herrison here. I have both and so far, I prefer the Becker BK25. The edge retention is better and the little bit of extra blade length is nice. I have the black izula with factory g10 scales as well. The coating definitely inhibited cutting through cardboard. I stripped mine and it performed much better. All that said, I still love my izula. It will definitely disappear in the pocket. But my BK24 with the D2 just stays sharper longer.

While I don't EDC a neck knife everyday, I side with incision on the quality of ESEE brand - you'll love that knife (ok, I admit I am addicted to them 3,4,5,6 ROWEN series), but I would go with DocT on belt / waist or Murse mount. Have fun picking out your Izula - consider the "survival kit" for inside the scales if you're seriously worried about "Hamr's Way" springing on you.

I'll give another thumbs up for the Izula. Lots of G10 and micarta scales are available. Wrap it in paracord for a slimmer profile. Great knives.

Where exactly do you get the idea that the Eskabar is narrower than an Izula?

Not a bad knife. Good warranty. Will rust if neglected; coating will help prevent rust. Coating will eventuality rub off in spots. I would wrap it in paracord; lanyard optional. Pocket carry IMO.

Don't forget they're now available in uncoated stainless steel models.

I had an ESEE Izula with the micarta scales and always carried it in my front jeans pocket . Even with the scales that worked fine . I liked the knife , but found the cutting edge a bit thick . I now carry a Survive Necker II the same way .
