Here's a couple of 'harrow teeth' from the farm store

P8270140.JPG

big one is 3/4" x 11" OAL

small one is diamond section 5/8 x 7/8 x 8 OAL
(about 6" of tooth)

Cost a couple of dollars each or less, can't recall.

Do you need to modify the diameter of them, Dean, and do they need to be hardened...?

Others know better than me.

I think 1/2" and smaller is more typical.

Don't know about hardening.

I was thinking of the ones DiJ commissioned a while back.
'Almost there' raw materials always appeal to me.

I'm thinking that throwing 1 1/2 lb of steel would get old real quick. I like the smaller one a lot better.

Wish we had a store like that near us. No farms, though, and 99% of people here don't even know what a harrow is.

I saw on a throwing website somewhere where a guy cut the heads off of some of those giant nails used to hold gutters onto houses. He polished them up some and sharpened the points a bit and rounded the cut ends. He said they worked great and they were cheap as you could ask for.

Those sometimes are aluminum

builder's supply often sell huge nails
intended for landscape timbers, barn building, etc
Forget what they are named

but big,
and as you say, cheap.

They are a tad large, but I was thinking if you forged the tip out a bit, they would make great spearheads.....
I would have bought a few, definitely.

one more thought - that smaller one would make a nice tip for a heavy duty fighting/walking/hiking staff.

For outdoor use only!!!!
I found out that you have to have a rubber tip on indoor walking sticks or canes the first time I hit a smooth hard floor. The damned thing damned near threw me because of it slipping suddenly and without warning out from under me!!!! Damned near went a$$hole over tincups that time!!!!!!!!  :o
Rubbers are good protection for all sorts of things it seems. :D ;) :footinmou

Edit:
Forgot about the censor, had to come back and use dollar $igns.;)
