Thinking of buying a endura 4.

It's down to a endura 4 and a griptilian. Has anyone ever had the lock fail on it? also how corrosion resistant is VG-10 Ive yet to have a stainless knife rust on me but this will live in my pocket though it won't see much water so I can't see buying a salt. and finally how sharp do they usually come I know it will dull but it probably won't see much abuse so it should stay sharp for a while. also could someone who owns both knives weigh in?

i personally dont own both, but i do have an endura and a minigrip. my endura 4 is the full flat ground version. personally i like the endura a lot more than the grip. it just feels better made overall. the minigrip almost feels cheap. so far the edge retention on the vg-10 has also been alot better than the 154cm

I own several of each, I can say that hands down the Enduras I own are sharper than about 98% of knives out there out of the box. VG-10 is a great steel, and Spyderco has it down to an art.
Both knives are good, solid, and very reliable. I have to admit the Endura gives me warm fuzzy feelings since I've owned so many of them and for more time than any other knives.

Hate to disagree, but I'd go with the griptilian

I have an Endura, and I do like it, but the design isn't as tough as the grip, Enduras really don't like any kind of side-to=side torsion.

And I feel that the 154cm on my Benchmades holds an edge better than the vg-10 on my Spydercos.

Enduras/Delicas are better as light weight back up blades, the griptilian is a better all around knife.

Endura 4 rules...mine is a real user. I left it outside overnight in the rain the other day. The VG10 blade had light colored rust stains on it in the morning. The stains came off rather easily though.

I would go with the Endura. I don't care for feel of the scales on the Grip. They feel "hollow" and "cheap" - not that they are, they just feel that way. The slim profile of the Endura also carries a lot easier. Just my two cents.

Personally, I like the Endura better. The Grip is too chunky for my hands, and I don't like tip-up carry.

The Grip is still a damn solid knife, though. Except for the fact that the Endura has full liners and the Grip doesn't, but... The Grip is still really good. If I didn't mind tip-up carry, it would be a close toss-up.

My enduras retired my Benchmades including my griptillian. in my experience VG10 holds a lot better edge than 154cm and is just as easy to re-sharpen. Neither had any rust problems at all in the same humid environment (north AR) that consumed my kershaws.

Stop thinking, start buying!

Doing the same daily cutting tasks my Grip dulled quicker than the Endura. They are both good knives. The mini grip feels sturdier than the full size. The handles on the full size grip feel hollow and kinda cheap but it's a tough folder. I actually like the axis lock better on the grip but I probably overall like the Endura better.

They are both extremely good blades. If you want a knife for slicing ability I would probably go with one of the new FFG Endura's. Either one are good knives though.

I got the FFG VG-10 and ZDP-189 Versions, been EDC the Brown FRN/FFG VG-10 for a while now and I love it! They are really great knives and the VG-10 version is cheap I think! you get alot of knife for the price.

If you want a more rugged knife, go with the foliage green G-10 Endura. Very solid knife.
Otherwise the new FFG 2010 versions are fantastic with new shallower, super-sharp edges. I've got 'em both, love em both.

I also have a regular Griptilian, if I could do it again I would have gotten a Doug Ritter Griptilian and put some Wilkins scales on there. Though that is a $150+ investment.

Benchmade is in a league of it's own when it comes to the smooth, lightening fast deployment. Spydies are fast.. but my Griptilian is scary fast. The biggest gripe I have about the Grip (heheh..) is the handle. I don't like it at all.

I like them both for different reasons so its a toss up but I would probably go with the endura. My only grip with the endura is its lockback. I like the Grips axis lock much better.

I prefer slim handles over fat ones but YMMV :). The Endura is robust and probably more reliable than the Grip in the long run. I'm sure purely based on strength they are comparable and the Grip might be stronger but I cant fully trust a lock that is completely dependent on 2 tiny omega springs. The ergos on the Griptilian isnt very comfortable, mostly because of the chunky handle. I eventually traded my Griptilian away, just not my cup of tea.

I use to own both, but ended up selling the grip and keeping my endura's.
I didn't like the cheap feeling of the grip's handle.

I own both. I'm happy with the Griptilian, but the Endura is a personal favorite. For EDC I prefer the Delica because it's smaller, but when size doesn't matter (and my girlfriend insists it's not important) the Endura is the folder I like to carry.

Well, I was thinking of the smaller sisters to each, the Delica and the Mini Grip. Handling them, those who say that the Spyderco handle just feels better, or right, are correct. The Grips are wider in the area near the blade, and the jimping is a bit more pronounced, because of the axis lock. Easier to close for sure, the Grip is, but overall, the Delica just has a better hand feel.

Both are fine knives. Most differences are purely preferential. I like VG10 better then 154CM. Midlocks are much easier to disengage with heavy gloves on. That's important for me in my work. Ergonomics on the Endura suit me better also. There is an aspect of the Endura that is far superior to the Benchmade and that is price.
