Hey guys.
Currently in my collection, I have a Spyderco Delica FFG, a Spyderco Sage I, a Buck Vantage Pro, a Kershaw Leek, and a Cold steel recon 1.

I really like the flipper on the Vantage Pro, so I decided that I want to get another knife. I would also like an A/O knife, but I don't feel like potentially getting in trouble for carrying it (I don't edc my leek)

So far all I have really looked at are the CRKT Ripple, the CRKT M-16 and the Kershaw Zing. Do you guys have any good quality flippers to recommend. My budget is around 80 bucks although I don't mind spending less.

Kershaw makes a lot of great flippers at a wide range of price points. For manual (non-assisted flippers), check out the Junkyard Dog II Composite Blade, Groove, OD-1, and Chill. For assisted flippers, there's the Rake, Shallot, Clash, Volt II, and a bunch of others.

Would you say that Kershaw has the highest quality flippers around for my price point? When I was looking into it, it seemed that the CRKT Ripple was pretty good as well.

I would go for a Blur, though to be honest, any A/O can potentially get you in trouble. Perhaps try a manual flipper like the RAM.

Yeah. When I say flipper I am referring to manual flippers. I can't legally carry any A/O knives where I live (or any for that matter...But the more normal it is, the less chance I have of people noticing it)

Blur isn't a flipper, man...it's a thumbstud-only knife.

Also, The Cyclone from Kershaw could be an option for you. They're getting harder to find, but they have an on/off switch for the assisted opening mechanism, so you can use it as a manual or assisted blade.

I don't have a CRKT Ripple but have heard that it's better than the usual (spotty) CRKT quality. But overall I would definitely say that Kershaw gives you the best quality at that price point. And of course it's also backed by one of the best customer service/warranty departments in the business.

Also, +1 on the RAM -- can't believe I forgot that one. It's probably my favorite Kershaw flipper in your price range.

Sorry. Every time I see "SpeedSafe" I think "flipper".

The ripple would be pretty good based on my experience with the Eros. Though to be honest I would really suggest saving up the big bucks and getting one of the $400 mid-tech IKBS flippers. Now that is a keeper:thumbup:.

So far it looks like I will end up getting the Kershaw Ram. What do you guys think about the EnerG and the OD1? These knives will be for EDC by the way so I wouldn't want it to be too large either.

The OD-1 is an excellent, extremely well-designed knife. Great blade shape, comfortable/secure in the hand thanks to the G-10 scale on the off side, Hinderer lockbar stabilizer for the framelock, etc. It's right up there with the RAM as my favorite Kershaw flipper in the sub-$80 price range.

I have a CRKT M16, and I cannot really recommend it. The LAWKS system allows for a bit of side to side blade play that cannot be adjusted out, at least on mine.

Which do you like more? The OD-1 or the RAM? The OD-1 has an awesome flipper but the blade shape is a little less cool looking than the RAM and the grip isn't as cool...

Can't say enough about the OD-1. It was the knife that started it all for me.

I highly recommend the ZT350. although a/o, i havent get in any trouble at all (no, i dont do gangsta or thug look, just don't). There is always a choice of taking the assist spring out.

I think ZT350 is one of the best bang out in that price range.

If I had to pick one, it'd be the OD-1.

No love for the Kershaw Skyline? $30 at Walmart, I'm sure you could get it cheap from walmart.com.

But yes, RAM and Cyclone are good also, IMO you really can't go wrong with any Kershaw knife, pick one you like that fits your needs.

Oh and I don't like SOG much but a buddy of mine swears by his Twitch, which does have a nice smooth action and fits your price.

you have some nice knives there.. my first and only kershaw is the skyline and I carry it when I know I'm going to use a knife hard, it has cut everything in construction imaginable and I've had it for over 16 months now..

If you didn't know, Buck just came out with another vantage line, called Vantage Pro Force with s30v oxidized black blade and awesome blue and black g10.. that's what I'd buy and is on my very short list, btw, love the sage 1 !!
